The Lead Project Finance Control plays a critical role in the accounting and finance team while gaining a broad understanding of organizational operations. The role will expose the Lead PFC to both project finance and control as well as financial planning and analysis. The Lead PFC will exercise independent judgment on department and project budgeting, financial forecasting, revenue recognition, and dynamic management reporting on government contracts. In this position, you will support the operations of a growth business with fast-paced projects. The Lead PFC oversees the finances for various types of contracts and is integral to effective financial reporting, as well as developing and hiring a team to direct. Reports to the CFO.Â
What you’ll bring:
Financial Analysis and Reporting:
- Evaluate variance and performance analyses of financial data and key performance indicators (KPIs) and effectively present findings to project management.
- Assist in the monthly closing process, particularly surrounding revenue recognition on projects and generating revenue adjustments as needed.
- Utilize the Cognos tool in Unanet and MS Excel to create custom and ad-hoc reports to inform management decision making.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead project and department budgets during the annual budgeting process and on an ongoing basis; load budget data into the planning module.
- Collaborate directly with project managers to help them understand their financial performance and areas of improvement in their groups and projects.
Contracts and Pricing:
- Collaborate with Contracts and Operations on pricing various proposals for both commercial and government projects including FFP, Cost Plus, and T&M contract types.
- Analyze purchase requisitions in the ERP system to ensure proper coding and cost collection.
Financial Operations:
- Keep abreast of new technology and new developments in the financial and accounting fields.
- Provide training and support for more junior finance and accounting staff.
- Identify the need for financial and accounting policy revision/clarification.
Project Financial Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Project Manager on all direct project-related financial tasks.
- Analyze all direct project costs/fee/revenue data; monitor project budgets and progress; and share results with Program Managers to ensure projects achieve financial expectations.
- Review and complete timely and accurate project monthly revenue recognition procedures, in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and effectively review project-based forecasting, including Estimate-At-Complete (EAC)/Estimate-To-Complete (ETC) analyses.
- Set up projects with different contract types (Cost-Plus, T&M, and Fixed-Price) including proper billing and revenue terms. Ensure that project set-ups and modifications are entered into Unanet ERP.
- Maintain Unanet ERP project information (i.e., contract/funding values, period of performance, line of business, project labor categories, etc.).
- Ensure timely invoice processing. Work with assigned billing specialist; review and approve client invoices; follow up on collections; and analyze and understand unbilled WIP.
- Manage project subcontractor invoices, including subcontractor invoice approval; invoice write-up and submission to Accounts Payable; and maintenance of subcontractor financial data for semi-annual subcontractor reporting (SF 294).
- Prepare project work plan/task order budgets as needed.
- Maintain project forecasts to assist the project team with effective financial planning.
- Prepare and submit project monthly progress reports/other reports as required.
- Interact with other departments, such as Contracts, Pricing, Accounting, Project Management, and Business Unit Leads regarding project-related issues.
- Maintain open communication with direct management regarding financial results and ensure Project Managers and other senior personnel are aware of risks and opportunities identified during project financial tracking, revenue review, A/R, WIP, etc.
- Review and monitor project funding and expenditures for contract 75% Limitation of Funds notification.
Compliance and Standards:
- Monitor internal finance and accounting controls to ensure compliance.
- Comply with all applicable government regulations.
- Assist in the development of company finance and accounting standards and procedures.
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring:
- Minimum 5 years of project control and government contracting experience
- Unanet ERP desired, Implementation experience a plus
- High level communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead a team
- Self driven and able to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Excel SME
Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen and able to work domesticallyÂ
Education:
- B.A./B.S. in Business, Accounting or Finance; MBA/MFA a plus
