Lead Project Manager - Vehicle Experience

Mission Summary

Motional is looking for a Lead Project Manager to help the Product team develop and deliver a user experience that is intuitive, comfortable, user-centered, and that will develop trust for this state-of-the-art technology. You’ll be on a small, fast-paced agile team, ensuring the work of a growing team of Product Designers, Industrial Designers, User Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineers, is moving forward and delivering on our goals.

While Motional has a broad community of project and program managers, you’ll join as our team’s first project manager, and will have the opportunity to shape your role and the function of project managers within our team. You’ll initially be focused on our AV Experience team, which defines the rider and external actor experience for our vehicles. Over time your role could grow beyond this team, to support other teams focused on vehicle fleet management, autonomous driving behavior, internal R&D tools, and our next generation vehicles.

What you'll be doing:

• Act as the main source of truth for team resource allocation
• Ensure all projects and work streams are set up for success - ensure staff is available, accountable, and well allocated across workstreams
• Ensure all active projects are on schedule and meeting goals
• Ensure our team is adhering to a well-executed product development process
• Ensure our team’s process and schedule are well documented
• Function as the main point person for running the team’s sprints and team-wide meetings
• Work with other functional leads to manage our roadmap and backlog of activities
• Identify problems with our product development process and work to implement system-wide improvement
• Coach our team on agile product development best practices
• Build cross-functional relationships outside of core product teams.

What we're looking for:

• Certification in Scrum/Agile Development and/or Project Management
• 8+ years of relevant industry experience in an in-house or agency design team, facilitating agile product development methodologies
• Strong drive to constantly make progress and remove roadblocks for your team
• Ability to carry out initiatives with little guidance.
• Ability to see the high-level picture, and how all components of an interconnected plan and system work together.
• Ability to take complex projects, and distill them into clear and actionable plans for individual experts to work against
• Solid experience ushering products from concept to completion (and beyond), and ensuring teams are aligned, maintain velocity, and meet expectations and goals
• Experience establishing, and conveying clear processes and responsibilities to a wider team
• Understanding in all stages of the product development process, from user research, to strategy and ideation, technical spikes, wireframes and prototypes, to the final engineering implementation of solutions.

Bonus points (not required):

• Strong understanding of the early and late stage vehicle development processes
• Experience working with high-technology products (i.e. startups, tech companies)
• Experience managing a team of project managers/scrum masters
• Experience working with products designing for equity and accessibility.
• Experience managing projects that blend design for physical and spatial experiences.
• Experience working in the autonomous vehicle, automotive, delivery or transportation industries.
