Lead Software Engineer

Zipcar is looking for a Technical Lead who is passionate about leading teams, taking responsibility and ownership of projects, and thrives in a collaborative environment. This Lead will be focused primarily on Backend technologies, requiring experience with a Java stack and microservice architectures. We are open to remote candidates for this role.
What you'll do as a Senior Backend Engineer:

• Create world-class APIs for web, mobile, and external teams supporting over a million members.
• Work collaboratively with product designers, product managers and quality engineers to deliver innovative new solutions and applications for a market leader in the mobility space.
• Develop and release scalable, high-performance applications.
• Strive for continuous improvement of the Zipcar member experience.
• As a Lead Engineer, coach and mentor other engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Provide technical insight and project updates to engineering leadership.
• Produce creative problem solving and empower fellow engineers to do the same.

What drives success for this role:

• 5 or more years of experience working with Java in an ecommerce environment.
• Experience in Microservices, SQL/NoSQL, RESTful endpoints.
• Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, Docker/Kubernetes and AWS Cloud a plus.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, SDLC, and testing best practices in an Agile environment.
• Have experience mentoring, reviewing and giving constructive feedback to other engineers.
• Required: BS in Computer Science or equivalent.
