Department Summary:

MITRE's Software Development department is seeking a Lead Software Engineer and Architect with significant experience in full stack web development and architecting and developing cloud solutions. We're a team of passionate architects and developers creating a wide range of web applications to assist MITRE's work. We love to explore new technologies all the time and stay on the leading edge. You will be a leader in the department, architecting future solutions including cloud offerings, integrating with the strength of our MuleSoft and Denodo capabilities, leading development across the full stack, and collaborating with division management to deliver critical capabilities to MITRE's global employees, sponsors, and partners.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Lead Software Engineer and Architect will be a key leader on a wide variety of enterprise web applications including MITRE's global intranet, the core information delivery systems used by over 10,000 employees worldwide. You will architect and lead the development of new applications with a focus on cloud development and deployment. You will be part of an agile team focused on enterprise applications and will be an active participant in shaping the feature roadmap and implementing critical features. You will collaborate across the organization to apply your skills to assist external-facing efforts.

The ideal candidate will have:

• A passion for architecting, developing, and deploying cutting edge web applications.
• Broad system thinker who has the ability to conduct design sessions, propose and capture design ideas by creating architectural diagrams and promote effective architectural and technical specifications for development teams.
• Ability to lead projects and serve as a trusted advisor to senior management in our division.
• Significant experience in architecting cloud solutions and applications.
• Significant experience developing and deploying highly available enterprise applications to production.
• A curious mind and a lean-forward attitude on innovations in software and web development
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent collaboration skills, being a mentor and thought leader to new & other fellow developers.
• Excellent communication skills

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar field, and 8 years of related experience; or 6 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience
• Expert in software development and systems engineering (SE) including modern software development processes and practices including agile development methods (e.g., DevSecOps), within horizontally scalable architectures.
• Fluent knowledge of modern and cloud software design, enterprise engineering and architecture, and system interfaces.
• Significant experience with end-to-end system lifecycle development, design, testing, integration, and deployment of operational systems
• Extensive experience in Microservices and APIs to solve complex connectivity challenges, using RESTful APIs
• Flexible systems thinker with the ability to deliver results quickly.
• Self-starter with effective time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational and communications skills, effective and clear written and oral communication abilities, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience architecting for cloud, and deploying to AWS, Azure or GCP
• Expert in languages such as Python, React.js, Vue.js, NodeJS, Java or .NET technologies
• Experience with MuleSoft and Denodo
• Experience with GitLab, CI/CD automated pipelines and no-touch deployments to cloud & on-prem systems

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest or experience in AI and machine learning
• Understanding of SSO layer(s) and experience with oAuth2 protocols using OKTA (or other oAuth2 providers).
• Experience with cloud services and any API gateways (e.g., Google Cloud, AWS, Azure, Apigee, MuleSoft etc.)
• Experience in agile software development process and Atlassian tools (JIRA, GitLab, Confluence)
