Location: Pune (Hybrid role: 3 days onsite) 

Overview

Guidepoint is looking for a lead engineer to lead and manage a globally distributed team of PHP engineers of various levels, located in the US, Europe, and India. The lead will be managing Insights Admin, an in-house built content and permission management system for the customer-facing business-to-business web portal. 

The lead is expected to be hands-on about 50% of the time, and spend the other 50% managing the team, running scrum ceremonies, conducting 1-on-1s, coaching, developing the team, and working on the architecture design, as well as working together with the product managers on requirements, roadmaps, and prioritization.

  • Reporting Structure/Direct Reports (if applicable): This role will be reporting to Engineering Manager based in United States 

Your Impact 

  • Develop and install best code practices on the team.
  • Foster trust and teamwork within the team, upstream and downstream teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of the technology behind the product, drive improvements, and design new solutions for business
  • Introduce and drive step-by-stem system architecture redesign focused on performance improvements and stability.

Breakdown Of What You'll Do  

  • Hands on Development in PHP(Symfony): Develop, maintain, and improve the existing PHP code base for web, APIs, and scheduled back-end jobs. Perform pull request reviews from the team, and work closely with product managers, QA, and other stakeholders.
  • QA and Maintenance: The role involves close work with the QA engineers, manual and automation. The role also requires providing production support when needed, and to solve system and data problems.
  • Developing and implementing processes and procedures: Introducing and implementing software development best practices, coding standards, testing and quality assurance standards.
  • Decomposing legacy applications into API’s: One of the major goals for this role is to introduce and incorporate software development best practices. Reworking the APIs, data contracts, and improving systems’ performance is a big part of the role.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams like Product Management and Product Design: The role requires strong collaboration with other development teams, as well as with QA, DevOps, product managers, and other stakeholders.

Business Need 

  • Revamp the existing Insight Admin product, a CRM component for the past 8 years. There is a clear business need to revamp the system, one part at a time, and make it a standalone business application within a reasonable
  • This role will be responsible for understanding the current system, workflows, and terminology.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities 

  • Initial Phase (3-4 months): 80-90% coding focused on learning and documenting existing codebase and preparing foundation for the architecture design of the next version of the software.
  • Work in an agile environment, orchestrating a group mostly comprised of skilled PHP engineers of various levels to complete User Stories authored by professional Product Managers 
  • Architect highly scalable/transaction-heavy web/API applications 
  • Work with 1-2 Frontend resources (in addition to full-stack PHP) through projects in React, Angular (maintenance), MooTools/jQuery (deprecation), Socket.io and server side NodeJS. 
  • Work with Product and QA Managers in multiple grooming sessions and sprint planning for your team 
  • Collaborate/coordinate with other Engineering Managers and Leads 
  • Work with QA and Application Support teams to triage bugs. 
  • Work with DevOps to automate deployment and monitoring of applications. 
  • Design and develop Restful APIs using frameworks with design patterns.

Minimum Technical Qualifications

  • 10+ years of development experience as an IC or Lead developer with at least 5+ years of expert hands-on experience in PHP 7 and above with OOPs concept and design patterns like factory, observer, adapter, strategy & decorator.
  • APIs & web-based applications development experience in the Symfony 3+ framework along with the integration of unit test cases (via PHPUnit etc).
  • Strong working experience with RDBMS preferably with MS SQL Server (but ok with MySQL, Postgres, etc)
  • NoSQL experience with Cosmos DB is required but MongoDB can also work.
  • Experience in solving scaling problems with caching (Redis), message brokers (RabbitMQ), and search (Elastic Search), etc
  • Prefer experience designing fault-tolerant architecture on cloud deployments (load balancing, clustering, reducing/eliminating single points of failure, etc)
  • Understand branching, merging, pull requests, and conflict resolution in Git (Bitbucket or GitHub)
  • Proficiency in working with CLI on Linux Servers with commands like awk, grep, and other important networking tools – netstat, iptables, nslookup, curl, wget, etc
  • Experience working with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP) with services like IAM, S3, EC2, VMs, SQS, Elastic Bean Stalk, etc.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and other important DevOps tools like Jenkins, Travis or CircleCI, SonarQube, Synk, Ansible, Maven, Gradle,
