This opportunity is accountable for providing technical leadership and guide, challenge, recommend and monitor IT solutions developed in-house or by an external provider for QBE to ensure full solution integrity that meet business needs.

Primary Responsibilities • Work closely with the enterprise architecture to ensure all solutions align to the IT strategy• Contribute to strategy, principles, policies and roadmaps for assigned solutions• Contribute to the future technology plan and adoption strategy• Facilitate, Advise and collaborate with third party service providers to ensure that all IT designs align with Enterprise Architecture principles and roadmaps, and deliver the desired outcome• Technical solutions are delivered efficiently and follow QBE processes and procedures outlining how technology can be used to solve a given business problem• Define the approach for structuring each application, including determining appropriate use of technology solutions• Understand the IT landscape where solutions reside to deliver effective IT solutions that support the business context and meet the broad business needs of QBE• Contribute to the refinement of processes and procedures to improve systems and procedures• Lead the use standardised tools and approach to documenting solutions sections to ensure consistency across the team• Throughout the project lifecycle, review and endorse, or proactively challenge, solution designs (internal and third-party). Negotiate the best possible solution for QBE, taking account of short and long term needs to meet business objectives• Throughout the end to end lifecycle of a project, provide design leadership and extensive collaboration to ensure that solutions meet business expectations and are in line with broader project or service constraints, such as time and cost• Lead and coordinate the design or assurance documentation in line with project timelines to ensure solution meets business expectations• Actively promote and embed the Architecture ways of working and due governance• Ensure requirements are managed to balance business benefits and solution constraints in order that projects scope is fit for purpose• Manage a team of Solution Architects, when appropriate, either as a direct line manager or as part of a project or program team structure

Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Preferred Competencies/Skills

• Azure Architecture patterns and solution development
• Working knowledge of Cloud-based development and deployment practices
• Product based IT delivery using Agile or similar approach.
• Formal Azure or AWS Architecture
• Prior experience in P&C application solutioning.
• Knowledge of security controls including encryption at rest, encryption in transit, vulnerability assessments, data anonymization, SIEM, etc.
• Knowledge of data modeling, database modeling and integration, ETL/ELT, advanced/automated SQL query development, and applying data analytics as a business concept
• Strong communication skills, ability to build consensus and work effectively with vendors, peers, IT management and business partners
• Extensive experience of hands on solution design for complex applications and review of solution designs created by others

Preferred Experience

• Prior experiences with DevOps and CI/CD
• Significant experience in solution architecture leadership
• Experience in architecting and designing technical solutions for Microsoft-centric solutions based on industry standards using Azure
• Experience of integration architecture patterns (service bus, API mediation etc) and knowledge of integration platforms such as Azure API Management, MuleSoft, WebMethods, etc.
• Experience in ensuring that applications conform to architectural principles (e.g. supportability, future-proofing, consolidation), standards and strategy
• Experience of working with third party service supplier / outsource providers
• Extensive experience in project delivery including large scale programme experience with significant change components
• Additionally, for technical solution architecture only:
• Experience in being part of a significant change programme, providing infrastructure-centric support and guidance to contribute to a broad solution design that spans multiple technologies and domains
• Experience in building solutions based on public cloud platform services
• Experience in translating business requirements into infrastructure solutions across all infrastructure technologies, including compute, storage, end-user and networking
• Good understanding of project delivery methodologies
• Experience of building solutions from defined architecture standards and patterns

Preferred Knowledge • Working knowledge of digital, emerging and disruptive technology applications• Working knowledge of insurance business processes and/or technology• Working knowledge of Insurance industry• Expert knowledge of problem analysis and design techniques

Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer.
