Lead Systems Engineer
Job Description
Summary:
The Lead Systems Engineer Level will serve as the Operations & Maintenance Team Lead team as a part of a large, complex cybersecurity, engineering and PMO contract for a federal customer. The candidate will lead a team of IT Operations and Maintenance systems and network engineers supporting a federal customer. The candidate will have highly organized skills and a customer-focused approach to resolve incidents, fulfill requests, onboard new staff to the organization office and have extensive experience working with ServiceNow.
The candidate will troubleshoot and resolve configuration and application issues on Microsoft Windows client systems (Windows 10 and above) in Enterprise and stand- alone environments; applies patches and scans stand-alone workstations to adhere to pre-defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The candidate will also provide technical expertise and support to solutioning engineer and engineering-related projects.
In addition, the candidate and her/his team will collaborate closely with cybersecurity and compliance teams to drive a high level of security scoring metrics with regards to vulnerability scans and patching across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will be self-driven and have the inherent interest to continue learning new technologies to solve problems collaboratively.
Job Duties:
- Provide leadership to a team of helpdesk specialists, O&M engineers and mitigation & vulnerability SMEs
- Demonstrated proficiency administering and maintaining ServiceNow to ingest, troubleshoot and execute incident tickets
- Extensive experience managing criteria to escalate incident tickets
- Analyzes and modifies Active Directory Group Policy Objects and User and Computer Objects.
- Enforces configuration and security standards.
- Supports Microsoft mobile solutions such as Microsoft Exchange (Active Sync) and Office 365
- Supports other mobile solutions such as Mobile Device Management (MDM) such as AirWatch, JAMF Casper, with alternative token technology (e.-Derived Credentials).
- Supports Windows 10 issues, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint
- Supports Cisco Anywhere Connect VPN client
- Supports application-based firewall and proxy server(s), and operating systems.
- Deploys and hardens Windows Server 2012 R2 & 2016 Standard and Data Center, including Apple OSX, IOS platforms(s).
- Implement, administer, and deploy leading security tools such as:
- McAfee Enterprise Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)
- McAfee Endpoint Security, Symantec Endpoint Protection,
- McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO)
- McAfee Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
- McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention (HIP)
- Carbon Black (Cb)
- NESSUS Security Center
- Privilege Access Management (PAM).
- Knowledge and experience with Azure Active Directory, LDAP, DB, UNIX/Linux, AWS.
- Closely collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity and compliance teams to drive solutioning and security compliance aligned to organizational directives.
- Managing a Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution such as Cisco AnyConnect; managing Virtualization solutions such as:
- VMware 6.0+ & Microsoft Hyper-V
- Deploying & hardening Windows Server 2012 R2 & 2016 Standard and Data Center
- Apple OSX, IOS platforms(s)
- Cloud service implementations with a focus on AWS and Azure.
- Implementing cloud automation such as Azure workflow and/or AWS application deployment.
- Experience deploying and using leading security tools, and experience deploying and hardening RedHat Linux 6.0+, implementing and managing RedHat Satellite, Veritas NetBackup, Dell Compellent SAN and/or DAS.
- Prepare written reports identifying issues and recommendations to remedy issues.
Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Security Clearance: Possess or able to obtain Public Trust
- Bachelor's Degree
- Candidate must have at least 15 years' experience
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification or
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification or
- Microsoft Certified Professional in SCCM-MCSA (Systems Center Configuration Manager: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate)
- Experience simultaneously performing in the role of and providing leadership to a team ensuring full operation of IT equipment and IT services.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting and resolve IT enterprise issues such as Microsoft operating systems, Active Directory, Server.
- Extensive experience resolving hardware issues such as workstations, servers, and appliances
- Demonstrated experience supporting a Microsoft enterprise environment including DHCP, DNS, and file and print servers.
- Experience with the installation, configuration and maintenance of VMware vSphere technologies: vCenter, ESX/ESXi, Horizon View.
- Demonstrated supporting Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environment including installation, configuring, troubleshooting break/fix and performing upgrades.
- Experience with resolving iOS and mobile (MDM issues) supporting end-user mobile devices.
- Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing project review support, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Focused, collaborative mindset to solve problems quickly.
- Deft ability to facilitate deeper technical sessions while clearly articulating highly technical discussions to non-technical stakeholders

- Capable of working under tight deadlines and on several projects simultaneously.
- Excellent time and resource management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and function effectively as a member of a team and adhere to strict deadlines.
- Ability to understand and communicate technical/business solutions to personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to demonstrate extremely strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and work ethic
- Ability to work odd hours outside of standard schedule as needed, g. weekends or after normal work hours.
