MITRE's Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH) is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer interested in supporting homeland security systems and missions. Our Centers comprises staff with diverse skillsets across the Systems Engineering Spectrum.

We are looking for someone with deep skills in two or more Systems Engineering areas, who understands how to apply them to the full project life cycle. This includes pre-acquisition research and development (R&D) activities, the acquisition life-cycle, and enterprise engineering activities. We are looking for candidates who understand how to define and analyze sponsor challenges and apply processes, approaches, and appropriate toolsets to solving them. The Lead Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise and strategic leadership for technology assessments, the design and development of complex systems and enterprise solutions, the definition of architectures, requirements, and conceptual designs, and verification and validation. He/she must be able to guide R&D sponsors through an SE or R&D life cycle and integrate appropriately with infrastructures and operations related to Risk Management, Program Management, Acquisition Management, Change Management and similar disciplines.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide technical assistance and consulting support for technology assessments and the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for Federal Government sponsors.
• Contribute to teams with expertise in one or more of the following technologies and practice areas: Systems Engineering, requirements engineering, systems architecture, test and evaluation, system design, system life-cycle management, quality management, design of experiments, and process analysis and improvement.
• Provide technical and/or task or project leadership as needed.
• Be able to interface with technical experts and leaders in Government and MITRE organizations and build trusted relationships.
• Collaborate and participate in activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within and across all work programs as appropriate.
• Support MITRE's efforts to develop work programs with new sponsors
• Support internal activities to develop capabilities in Systems Engineering such as requirements engineering, architecture and integration, technology prototyping, test and evaluation, artificial intelligence, data analytics, model-based engineering, system security engineering,.
• Promote the advancement and application of model-based engineering, systems-of-systems engineering and systems thinking.

Required Qualifications:

• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Broad experience across the Systems Engineering life cycle, including multiple life cycles
• Depth in at least 2 Systems Engineering areas, with an understanding of the full life cycle
• Strong written and oral communications skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work well in teams and independently
• Ability to work well with sponsors
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio
• Secret or above government clearance or eligibility for a clearance

Preferred Qualifications :

• BS in an engineering or related STEM discipline
• MS in systems engineering or other engineering discipline, computer science, or a related information technology or systems field
• Experience working with one or more Government agencies
• Task/project management or technical lead experience.
• Coaching and mentoring skills
• Ability to engage and cultivate trusted partnership with sponsor and key stakeholders
• Engineering support for proposal evaluations
