SUMMARY

A Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) is responsible for proactive and reactive response to customer systems, services, and user requests. An LSE has a wealth of knowledge in systems administration, networking, scripting, and information security practices and has proven experience architecting and leading deployments of private and public cloud-based platforms. The position works closely with team members as a technical mentor, point of escalation, while ensuring Arete provides customers with a high-quality support experience.

The LSE possesses a diverse range of networking competencies essential for overseeing complex network infrastructures. From architecting and designing robust networks to implementing and optimizing their performance, this role demands expertise in scalability and high-availability solutions. Proficient in various network protocols, the LSA excels in monitoring network health and ensuring seamless virtualization. Automation and incident response are second nature, and the engineer is well-versed in performance tuning and orchestrating successful network upgrades.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the timely coordination and tracking of multiple work streams across multiple projects.
  • Engage customers by phone, email, and ticket portal to provide tier 3/4 problem identification, diagnosis, and resolutions.
  • Serve as final point of escalation for all technical issues.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for all business-critical technology challenges.
  • Ensures asset records, knowledge base documents and other forms of documentation are created and maintained.
  • Architect and solution design for customer projects.
  • Demonstrate adherence with and development of client's change management practices and policies.
  • Work with client's security and IT operations to implement remediation plans for critical vulnerabilities, zero-day attacks, and recent threat actor attack vectors.
  • Identifies customer areas of cyber and/or operational risks and works with the team to provide mitigation solutions.
  • Collaborate with management teams to develop, maintain, innovate, and provide onboarding and new-hire training.
  • Provide tier 3/4 reactive after-hours support when necessary.
  • Engage in regular career and job responsibility relevant training.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices and developments related to IT industry.
  • Participate in projects across multiple business units.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior technical staff.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by management.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Comprehensive understanding of private and public cloud infrastructure configurations and connectivity.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of common critical network protocols, OSI model, and layer 7 technologies.
  • Technical competencies in the following areas: Microsoft's M365 and Azure Platforms, Active Directory, Group Policy, Information Security, SaaS integrations, Intune and/or other MDM solutions, SIEM Platforms, Virtualization, Windows Server, Scripting/PowerShell, Linux/Unix, DNS, SharePoint, Networking, Firewalls.
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional demeanor.
  • Customer service focused.
  • Must be a strong team collaborator.
  • Maintain present industry knowledge, best practices, and guidelines in a research capacity.

JOB REQUIRMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business, or other related field.
  • 10+ years of experience involving technical project implementations and/or incident response engagements.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional short notice travel and work on weekends or holidays, if needed.
  • Strong team player with the ability to conduct daily duties autonomously.
  • Network+, Security+, Microsoft Azure fundamentals, Microsoft M365 fundaments, CISSP, CEH, SANS/GIAC, or similar certifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • No physical exertion required.
  • 50% travel within or outside of state.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with Arete salary and benefit policy.

FLSA OVERTIME CATEGORY

Job is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
