Lead Systems Engineer
Job Description
The Fight Systems CoE Flight Controls team develops state-of-the-art flight controls for air transport, regional, and business aircraft. This position will be part of the System Engineering team for the Compact Fly-By-Wire (CFBW) product line. Typical CFBW customers include Urban Air Mobility (UAM) & VTOL air vehicles, unmanned Cargo, and Part 23 fixed-wing aircraft.
The primary responsibilities would be leading the system engineering activities integral to developing certified flight controls products. This includes developing and managing system-level requirements, as well as SW-based implementation, integration, and verification activities associated with these functions. The position will also include performing other system engineering activities such as developing planning documents and implementing work instructions, processes & tools. This role may be in support of the Core CFBW program scope and/or individual customer programs.
Preferred candidates will have previous experience in control law analysis and development, flight control system development, Fly-By-Wire, and avionic system development. Expertise with Matlab and experience with flight tests is preferred. Periodic customer interactions are expected and occasional travel to support requirements development and on-aircraft flight testing of the system may be needed. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to interface with the customer, certification agencies, third-party suppliers, global resources, and peers such as hardware and software engineers.
The position is in Phoenix, Arizona (Deer Valley Facility) or Minneapolis, Minnesota (Ridgeway Facility).
YOU MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
- Minimum of 6 years of experience directly related to flight control system development and/or related avionics functionality
- Focus on product safety
- Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident due to export control requirements

- Extensive applicable experience with aircraft avionics development and testing

- Experience leading small teams of engineers and providing coordination/direction to a larger team
- Integration and test experience with flight control systems in a flight test environment
- Advanced knowledge of the systems development lifecycle
- Proficient in MATLAB, Simulink, Python
- Experience with data analytics with strong math skills
- Experience in all aspects of the systems engineering process, from requirements analysis through verification testing.
- Individuals who quickly analyze, incorporate, and apply new information and concepts.
- Adept with a diverse and global team
- Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, who consistently take the initiative to get things done
- Ability to adapt to project change.
