Position Overview
The Tax Department is relied upon by all facets of the organization including sales, new client implementation, client support, and finance. The Team Lead position provides ongoing mentoring to Tax Specialists I, II, and III, while ensuring team deadlines are on track and maintained, on the Tax Treasury, Filing, and Notice Resolutions teams. They will work strategically with other departments to refine processes and procedures while creating and communicating long term goals with leadership. Monitor and manage high-level client escalations, as well as, agency mass issues.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and prioritize workflow for team members effectively
  • Analyze tax filing processes and procedures to ensure the most efficient and effective method is utilized and continue additional process improvements as they arise.
  • The first point of contact for resolving escalated issues and facilitation and articulation of solutions to internal partners
  • Meet cadence of established deadlines at appropriate frequencies.
  • Maintain employee level metrics and analyze data for policy adherence and minimize errors
  • Mentoring and ongoing training with team members
  • Strategize and communicate long term objectives and goals to team members and leadership
  • Excellent knowledge of all payroll and tax software applications
  • High-level understanding of internal tax department processes
  • Build and maintain working relationships with state and local agencies
  • Keep up to date on the latest developments as they affect tax regulations and policies
  • Data analysis for notice prevention
  • Ensure deadlines are established and met to control notice cycles
  • Prevent Tax Notices with Special Projects designed to target specific known issues
  • Effective penalty abatement management
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest developments as they affect tax regulations and policies and communicate salient information to teams and leadership
Education and Experience
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in Payroll, employment tax, or a related compliance field
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with Enterprise Employment Tax Software Tools
  • Experience as a Payroll Practitioner for a large company a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws
  • Experience with research and execution of complex payroll tax filings
  • Certified Payroll Professional preferred or significant progress toward certification desired
  • Payroll service bureau experience desired
  • Experience with multiple government agencies and the ability to understand complex regulatory language
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skill required
  • Strong communication skills and decision-making ability
  • High level of integrity

This role can be performed from any office in the US. The pay range for this position is $58,221 - $81,553 /year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position offers a comprehensive variable compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here. Base pay information is based on market location.
