Lead Test Engineer

Lead product validation activities of assigned projects, including major complex programs having moderate risk, to ensure that new or current electro-mechanical products reliably meet performance requirements.

What You Will Do:

• Lead product validation activities of assigned projects, including major complex programs having moderate risk, to ensure that new or current electro-mechanical products reliably meet performance requirements.
• Serve as a proficient expert in product validation processes. Effectively apply testing protocols to ensure successful product release.
• Develop and manage large test plans (DVP&R), as well as Test Methods, to perform necessary tests on complete system projects.
• Expertly use lab resources, proactively identify and fill gaps in needed lab resources, oversee testing activities, review documented test results, and make recommendations to the engineering team in a timely manner.
• Lead Test Technicians guided by business or functional team objectives by providing them training, and technical guidance, supporting them to achieve the assigned testing activities, and critically reviewing their reported test results. This may include indirect supervision, possibly to include performance management and/or timecard approval.
• Drive lab improvement initiatives to maintain lab competencies on par with changing customer demand, new product technology, and latest industry requirements.
• Assess risks and quality of previous project deliverables and identify opportunities for future process improvements.
• Provide technical and team leadership to increase lab throughput, train peers and lab technicians, and seek repeatability & reproducibility of test results.
• Establish product validation team priorities at the management's discretion, based on lab resources and engineering customer demand, to execute lab work in the most effective manner and meet lab productivity goals.
• Promote product failure investigations by gathering and communicating objective evidence to relevant teams, helping identify root cause, and recommending corrective actions.
• Proficiently use test methods, industry standards, data analysis tools, Design of Experiments (DOE), and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
• Use proficient communication and interpersonal skills to serve internal customers such as Product Engineering, System Engineering, Product Management, and Technical Service, and to collaborate with peers, both locally and globally.

What You Need to Succeed:

Percentage of Travel: 10%

Minimum Years of Experience: 5+

Education Standard: Bachelor's degree required

• Exhibits leadership in cross-functional and multi-discipline teams to represent testing activities, report product observations, collaborate with internal customers, advocate quality to protect our product end-users.

Knowledge, Competencies, & Work Experience required:

• Specialized expertise in product test engineering
• Demonstrated experience in testing electro-mechanical consumer products, preferably door hardware or access control products, from design concept to production-level maturity
• Ability to program or learn to program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and use automation to exercise units under test.
• Ability to thrive while working on multiple complex projects with critical path deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated experience improving test lab operations by deploying technical solutions (ex: HMI integration).
• Ability to take responsibility for and adhere to fundamental defined activities within the Product Development Process
• Proficiency with architectural door hardware, including familiarity with BHMA and UL standards.
• Willingness to provide and receive mentorship
• Competent English language technical communication skills, both written and spoken

Additional Knowledge, Competencies, & Work Experience highly beneficial:

• Proficiency in validating low-power wireless communications products that use keypads or card readers and interact with smart devices or other Internet-connected devices.
• Practical experience with ESD testing
• Substantial familiarity with multiple access control product categories (such as Locks, Exit Devices, Door Controls, etc.)
• Experience designing and deploying custom automatic mechatronic machinery (servomotors, pneumatics, hydraulics, controls programming, machine safety, etc.)
• Experience designing and implementing automated data collection (analog and digital sensors, DAQ

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

• The expected Base Salary Range: $70,700 - $131,300. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
