Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Confirm and communicate requested trades from customer to trader.
  • Perform the execution of customer trades on the trade platform, or hedge desk.
  • Daily position balancing of dataset and hedge accounts.
  • Coordinate pricing via exchange for loaded vessels.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationship with the Trade Operations Manager and Desk Director to create a strong business partnership between the operational and financial organizations.
  • Perform and manage the detailed analysis of a broad range of financial tasks including freight variance, basis and futures analysis, inventory valuations, shrink, open contract review and valuation, open shipment review and valuation, accounts receivable review and valuation. Effectively present data to Trade Operations Manager and management team as needed.
  • Fully understand all aspects of invoicing and trade specialist functions and the applicable system. Ability to directly backup role of any trade specialist.
  • Learn and effectively utilize all applicable financial and operations systems. Ensure adequate training for trade specialists.
  • Provide excellent customer service by fostering positive relationships and a strong follow-up with customer's issues, both internal and external.
  • Create and maintain a team environment within the desk and encourage a broader team atmosphere with all other desks.
  • Provide various information to Trade Operations Manager and management team, as needed, to effectively analyze the results of desk operations.
  • Work with Trade Operations Manager and management team to maintain a consistent internal control structure on the desks.
  • Proactively investigate productivity opportunities and follow through to resolution communicating successes to Trade Operations Manager and the management team.
  • Work proactively with lead trade associates of other desks to ensure shared service policies are followed and that all personnel are effectively utilized. Effectively organize workflow ensuring effective coverage and minimal overtime within the desk.

  • Other general administrative duties as assigned by the Trade Operations Manager.


Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent work experience required
  • Futures and options trading experience required.
  • High level of multi-tasking ability
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service commitment.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic general ledger accounting.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft applications.
  • 1 + years' experience in a trading environment or 4 + years in a business environment preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.


Special Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time
  • Position requires operation of a computer and other standard office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator, computer printer and phone up to 90% of the time
  • Frequently communicates with employees in the office and at remote locations
  • Hours of operation. Monday - Friday: 8am to 4pm
