Summary:
As the Lead VE+ET Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, managing, developing and oversight of vehicle level testing. This person will work closely on a daily basis as an interface between internal/external business partners and our Test Engineering team. The successful candidate must be self-directed and capable of trade-off decision making to deliver high quality test results on-time and within budget, and oversee compliance with Allison processes and procedures. As part of this, they will work closely with internal and external business partners to manage test programs. The role will provide leadership opportunity for involvement with Allison products, external customer applications, industrial test equipment, and test operating controls systems. Significant mechanical and electrical content exists as well as exposure to new vehicle technologies. This person will lead capability improvements, share knowledge, assist and train other support personnel by a team approach in all projects.
In this role, you will be a valuable part of the team by:
- Utilization of a systems engineering approach to oversee the design, development, implementation, and execution of reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timing.
- Lead and oversee department continuous improvement activities to increase testing efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality management systems.
- Assumes appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development team.
- Participates in planning and/or status meetings.
- Promotes teamwork on all work related assignments.
- Maintains willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammates.
- Plans, manages, and oversees the daily execution of vehicle test activities.
- Creating, managing, and delivering multiple projects on-time and to budget.
- Assures facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needs.
- Issues the appropriate documentation as required to initiate and support the test flow.
- Oversee regular status and directional meetings
- Communicate technical data to internal and external engineering organizations.
- Efficient in computer programming to modify test cycles and post processing applications.
- Facilitate and support system integration, connectivity, and ongoing calibrations
- Support development and implementation of new test solutions to meet evolving industry needs
- Supports preparation of program bids or requests for cost estimates.
- Lead compliance and quality management accreditations
- Oversee implementation of applicable procedures and practices as delineated in the VE+ET standard practices.
- Act as the liaison to cross-functional stakeholder organizations
- Working with a high level of independent judgment and decision making.
- Adheres to and strives to improve the engineering development process.
- Establishes and updates best practices and standardized testing procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree/experience
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of 10 years of Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant project management experience
- Proficient in IATF and ISO accreditation standards
- Proficient in oral and written business communication
- High level of interpersonal skills
- Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables
- Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in laboratory test environment
- Basic knowledge of vehicle powertrain systems and operations, hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not required
- Troubleshooting experience in electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems preferred
