Compensation Range
Hourly: $20.00 - $20.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)
About this job
Commerce's Legal and Risk Management teams are hiring an intern for Summer 2024 to learn more about the work we do within Commerce Bank. You will support these departments in various project work, research, drafting, and shadowing opportunities. You will also have an opportunity to meet other interns through participation in Commerce's Internship Program. Consider applying if you are interested in learning more about the functions of an in-house legal team, compliance, risk management, and the operations of an organization in a heavily regulated industry.
Essential Functions
- Perform legal research and draft memorandum
- Review and summarize regulatory updates and guidance
- Review department procedures and analyze for process improvements
- Develop and implement procedural updates, as necessary
- Participate in meetings with CBI Legal and/or Risk Management
- Review, draft and edit contract and other agreement templates
- Review and manage CBI Intellectual Property
- Work with supervising attorneys supporting a variety of Bank lines of business
- Complete rotations in each of the Risk Management functions including Enterprise Risk, Operational Risk, Third-Party, Model, Banking Compliance, Investment Compliance, Financial Intelligence Unit, and Fair & Responsible Banking
- Assist Risk Management managers with project work as assigned
- Conduct research and draft summaries related to various regulatory matters; review regulatory notices and guidance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Schedule
- Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Mostly onsite
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Ability to conduct thorough and accurate legal research using various resources, including statutes and regulations
- Curious by nature, including critical thinking
- Strong computer skills and working knowledge of basic computer software and network systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality Strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently
- Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
- Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
Education & Experience
- Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree or JD preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
