Legal Counsel, Data Legal Americas

Your role

Do you have international, private practice or financial industry experience and a keen interest in working for a global company and advising on data privacy, bank or professional secrecy and client confidentiality?

We are looking for a qualified Lawyer to advise on:
• the legal interpretation of applicable data protection, privacy, bank or professional secrecy, and confidentiality laws and regulations in the Americas, with a focus on Latin America
• data privacy, data analytics, use of data as a strategic asset including cross-border and intra-group data sharing initiatives affecting one or more regions
• the use of data in artificial intelligence, distributed ledger technology, cloud, and other emerging technology initiatives

• data protection, privacy, bank or professional secrecy, and confidentiality provisions in legal documentation such as privacy statements, client terms, templates or third-party contracts
• the development and roll-out of policies, procedures and documentation to cover new or updated legal requirements in the Americas, with a focus on Latin America, and other regions that have an impact on the use of data
• the ethical use of data

Your team

You will work in the Digital, Intellectual Property and Data Legal team within UBS Group Legal. This team provides coverage of emerging legal issues for data, information and digital topics and supports UBS' strategic imperative to use technology as a differentiator. You will be at the forefront of advising on these topics with opportunities to be involved in exciting projects on emerging technologies as they develop. As part of a global team, you should expect to participate in knowledge sharing and standard setting throughout UBS.

Your expertise

• a qualified lawyer with experience in LATAM data privacy, bank or professional secrecy and confidentiality with a desire to learn new skills and technologies and to think outside your core area
• patient and meticulous with good analytical and project management skills
• ability to assess and advise on complex risk as part of providing solution driven advice
• demonstrate experience in relation to in-house positions (ideally within the financial services sector) or reputable private practice firms
• strong commercial acumen and ability to provide strategic value add
• "Can do" attitude and prepared to roll up your sleeves, when required
• excellent stakeholder management and relationship building skills
• ability to work independently and under compressed timeframes
• prior bank secrecy law advisory experience will be considered a big plus
• fluency in English and Portuguese (Spanish also preferred but not required)
