Introduction to the job

Generalist legal and compliance professional, covering the broad spectrum of commercial, regulatory compliance, ethics & integrity, and other legal & compliance matters for ASML Japan.

Role and responsibilities

Working closely with global and local stakeholders, the successful candidate will:

• Act as strategic legal business partner to regional commercial units, advising on regulatory compliance as well as deal structuring and execution, including drafting and negotiating commercial (sales and procurement) contracts;
• Manage ethics and compliance programs in the region, including proactively promoting a culture of integrity, ethics, and compliance within the local organization and providing advice and support in compliance with laws, regulations, and policies;
• Provide strategic advice and management for regulatory inquiries, audits and investigations, and handle litigation and other legal disputes and potential disputes;
• Maintain ASML’s multiple legal entities in the region, and provide legal support for corporate projects;
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current laws and industry regulations of the different countries in the region, identifying local compliance requirements, setting compliance priorities, and supporting implementation of compliance controls and processes;
• Act as advisor to regional and HQ-based management regarding local laws, regulatory developments, acting as the bridge between HQ and the region, both within the Legal & Compliance department, as well as with other departments; and
• Select and strategically manage the company’s external legal advisory network throughout the region, including consideration of competencies, responsiveness to the company’s needs, as well as cost.

Education and experience

• JD or equivalent law degree;
• At least 8+ years of experience, preferably in both law firm and in-house settings;
• License to practice law in a major jurisdiction;
• Strong personal character and commitment to integrity;
• Knowledge of and passion for ethical conduct and compliance;
• Good business sense;
• Ability to influence others and lead;
• Proactive, hands-on approach;
• English proficiency; Japanese is a plus.

Other information

Hybrid, but frequent presence in Yokkaichi, Tokyo, Hiroshima and other ASML site offices is required.
