PRIMARY PURPOSE:

It is the primary responsibility of the Legal Counsel to perform, at the direction of the Vice President of Risk Management or Senior Vice President & Legal Counsel and other senior department attorneys (as applicable), professional legal work related to assigned matters for MGM Resorts International and subsidiary organizations. This attorney will be responsible for drafting and filing pleadings, handling discovery, attending mediations and arbitrations, and handling general liability litigation matters through trial. Additionally, as a senior member of the Risk Management team, the Legal Counsel will work within the Risk Management Department to assist with various insurance related matters, business and contract consulting, and Risk Management initiatives. This role requires admission in good standing to the Nevada bar.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represents the Company in litigation, including federal and state court jury and bench trials, mediations and arbitrations.
  • Performs legal research, drafts and files pleadings, handles all aspects of discovery, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution and trial for matters in litigation.
  • Provides sound, well-reasoned legal advice to the Company's various business units and maintains strong business relationships among the various internal business groups requiring legal support.
  • Consults with Company's various business units regarding risk evaluation, internal policies and procedures and other risk management issues.
  • Reviews and drafts business contracts with focus on limiting liability and maximizing risk transfer opportunities.
  • Participates in insurance procurement by giving presentations to insurance underwriters and communicating with brokers and underwriters on various topics.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Associate Legal Counsel, Paralegal and other staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Four (4) years of being a licensed attorney and be in good standing to practice law in the State of Nevada.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Applicant MUST be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada and in good standing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Substantive knowledge and understanding of legal strategies and principles; ability to analyze and apply legal principles and precedents to legal issues; ability to perform legal research, evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations.
  • Excellent research and writing skills; ability to prepare clear, concise and complete legal documents, reports, correspondence and other communications materials on complex legal issues; ability to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms; ability to make effective public presentations. Candidates may be required to provide a writing sample. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
  • Sound judgment and superior decision-making, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; ability to meet prescribed deadlines. Basic proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed and able to work without direct supervision on assigned projects and tasks. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
