Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to join the Sixth Street team to begin our newly-created legal operations and analytics function (“Legal Ops”).  The function will be part of Sixth Street’s global Vendor Management Team and will have responsibility to partner with legal professionals, firm and fund accounting teams, and the broader vendor management team to design, implement, and operate controls and processes that can drive strategic decisions on Sixth Streets legal spend.  This person will also partner with other operations and technology professionals to streamline the financial reporting and budgeting processes around our legal spend.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze financial spend data to develop reports, dashboards, and key metrics for General Counsel. 
  • Implement data-driven strategies to control costs and optimize outside counsel spend.
  • Provide support in areas including finance and expense allocation, law firm billing management, and general administration.
  • Oversight and coordination of legal division financial management and internal reporting.
    • Planning and management of budgeting and forecasting, overseeing work with finance on accruals and reserves, as well as measuring performance against budgets.
    • Serve as the legal team’s key liaison with the finance and accounting departments across Sixth Street’s business unit leaders.
  • Build and manage working relationships with outside counsel to effectively communicate on complex law firm billing matters and ensure fair economics for services.
  • Help to build, automate, and streamline spending across all functions of the legal department.
    • Collaborate with technology to develop automated systems for tracking as it relates to vendor management and overall legal expenses (to ultimately help with reporting and cost reduction analysis).
  • Serve as key point of contact for law firm due-diligence process to conduct initial and ongoing risk assessments.
  • Develop policy and procedures to lead annual review process for budget as it relates to all vendor management spend.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in an accounting, law firm or financial services firm, serving in an expense management, FP&A and/or operations capacity.
  • Strong academic background and undergraduate degree.
  • Experience with Tymetrix, Simple Legal, or similar technology preferred.
  • Ability to problem solve, anticipate needs, and prioritize.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Self-starter who requires little day to day management but responds well to strategic direction.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain composure in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency; ability to execute quickly and efficiently with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Structured problem solver who is able to synthesize sophisticated information from a variety of sources into implementable recommendations and solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and backgrounds.
  • Comfort working in a high growth, iterative environment.
