Legal Operations Data Analyst
About The Position
The Legal Operations Analyst - supports process improvement and customer affordability efforts within the Legal Department. The Legal Operations Analyst will focus on optimizing the Legal Department's use of outside counsel and other vendors, including development, implementation, and tracking compliance with outside counsel guidelines, alternative fee arrangements, and overall terms of engagement to ensure the cost-effective and high-quality delivery of legal services to Ameren.
Key responsibilities include:
Reporting, Data Analysis & Visualization
• Support regularly scheduled monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements and develop enhanced reports and analytics in areas of outside counsel and vendor legal spend and matter management; create, update, and maintain dashboards; and continually improve reporting.
• Act as the eBilling Administrator of the eBilling system CounselLink, accrual process, audits, and vendor onboarding.
Information Technology
• Develop expertise in relevant systems and processes to provide day-to-day support, as well as to lead enhancement efforts to existing legal applications such as our document management system (SharePoint) and e-billing tool (CounselLink), etc.
• Subject matter expert and responsible for management on technology platform CounselLink for e-billing, matter management, other optimal uses of the tool and serve as the system administrator for legal department systems.
• Train and advise the users of multiple applications supporting the functions across the Legal Department.
Budget
• Liaison with finance and accounting teams and Department leadership to develop, communicate and facilitate adherence to budget.
• Develop, track, and report the budget and budget process.
• Review monthly legal invoices, forecasts of spending and related reports and/or audits with a focus of reducing costs and increasing efficiencies.
Department Initiatives/Special Projects
• Learning and Development: Working with Legal subject matter experts to assist with content development, deployment, and delivery of legal training modules to employees across the entire company.
• Operational Excellence: Supports General Counsel's efforts of continuous improvement through leading special projects, identifying process improvements that realize cost or time savings, and simplifying existing processes.
• Develop presentations across various topics including strategy, forecasting, and budgeting, and outside counsel management.
• Lead legal operations projects and provide support on various other on-going projects.
• Manage the administration of the Legal Operations SharePoint site and content.
Diversity
• Advance the department diversity strategies and initiatives.
Law Firm and Legal Vendor Management
• Assist with the law firm and vendor queries regarding invoices and payment issues and assist with the administration of our Company's preferred law firm program, including maintaining program documentation, enforcing billing guidelines, rate approvals, program evaluations, and periodic program renewal activities with a focus of reducing costs and increasing efficiencies
• Lead the engagement, onboarding, maintenance/monitoring and offboarding of legal vendors and contractors.
• Manage vendor subscriptions including assessing usage and replenishing purchase orders.
Education and Required Experience:
BA/BS required, with Finance, Accounting or other business-related degree preferred.
Minimum of five years' experience in analytics, metrics, finance, or another similar role required.
Practical knowledge of law firm billing practices and common legal matter progression (e.g., course of litigation, basic corporate or financial transactions) preferred. Previous finance or legal operations experience focused on legal operations, technology, and analytics, including SAP, e-billing, and matter management systems experience, preferred.

Resourcefulness and ability to navigate in institutional policies, procedures, and technology is a must. Ability to deal with sensitive issues in a multi-cultural environment and build effective working relations with colleagues. Ability to be flexible, open minded with integrity.
