Job Description:
Job Summary: The Legal Operations Manager reports to the Tarrant County Hospital District Chief Legal Officer and indirectly to the Deputy General Counsel and has responsibility for performing legal and business administrative operations and related support functions in the Legal Services Department.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Responds to inquiries from outside counsel, in-house counsel, and others.
- Triages and responds to initial requests for legal assistance and works with Deputy General Counsel for assignment.
- Organizes and maintains outside counsel engagement, letters, and other Legal Services' files, including contracts, memos, and invoices, and processes bills and invoices for payment in coordination with Accounts Payable Department.
- Oversees invoicing process for outside counsel, including reviewing all invoices and ensuring compliance with outside counsel contracts, preparing invoice documentation and transmittals, performing general accounting, and monitoring payment status.
- Drafts, edits, prepares, and proofreads legal correspondence and other documents; including contracts, legal briefs, and other related legal documents.
- Prepares synopses and summaries of complex legal issues under direction of counsel.
- Conducts statistical, documentary, and investigatory research.
- Compiles data and prepares periodic reports on Legal Services departmental performance.
- Oversees and reconciles Legal Services expenditures and provide monthly financial and budget reports.
- Monitors and assists in preparing the department operating budget, including assisting in drafting initial budget, projecting future budget needs, and reviewing and processing budget and purchasing related documents.
- Supports management of Legal Services Department's projects and strategic initiatives.
- Assists in developing, revising, implementing, and communicating Legal Services Department's processes and procedures.
- Provides general office administrative support to the Deputy General Counsel and other law department staff, including, but not limited to: answering and routing telephone calls, scheduling meetings and appointments, making travel arrangements, preparing travel and purchasing forms and documents, timekeeping, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail, copying, and transmittal of documents.
- Maintains and updates subscriptions, memberships, and law library publications.
- Provides back-up assistance to other legal support staff and assists with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience as a business operations specialist, legal assistant, or paralegal.
- OR in lieu of bachelor's degree, High school diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years or associate's degree and six (6) years of legal operations, business operations, legal secretary, legal assistant, paralegal or related experience.
- Strong initiative, as well as team-work, delegation and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in serving as a legal assistant or paralegal in a law firm or hospital/corporate setting.
