Amplify is seeking a full-time Legislative Assistant to be responsible for developing policy proposals and briefing materials, supporting advocacy campaign development, and facilitating relationships with state and federal policymakers in support of quality K-12 instructional practices. The role requires a range of skills, including critical thinking, policy analysis, attention to detail, and effective communication. It is also preferred if applicants have knowledge of education policy and governance, grant writing, and awareness of effective K-12 instructional practices.
This is a remote role; preferable locations include Washington, D.C., or New York City (but not required)

Responsibilities:
  • Perform a broad range of legislative research/administrative duties and special assignments in support of the Office of Government Relations
  • Conduct extensive and thorough research of legislative actions based on knowledge of Amplify's core policy issues
  • Review state and federal legislative committee reports, bills, and public laws to identify state/federal policy and regulatory requirements and opportunities related to company-specific issues for future action
  • Track advancement of state and federal bills through the legislative process
  • Develop legislative reports and provide briefings to Government Relations leadership
  • Prepare special legislative research projects, such as drafting legislative summaries on specific issues or programs related to K-12 education and appropriation legislation
  • Collaborate with the SVP, VP, and broader Government Relations team to develop position papers, briefs, proposals, and model language
  • Serve as liaison to state and federal policymakers and staff
  • Advocate for effective and impactful K-12 public policy
  • Attend education policy events, as needed

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in public policy or advocacy and grant writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and/or local K-12 education governance regulatory, and budgeting environment
  • Professional experience communicating policy views to legislative and executive leaders

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to monitor and analyze a broad range of policy and regulatory issues
  • Integrity and knowledge of relevant professional and ethical standards
  • Ability to perform work under deadlines with short notice. Candidates must possess the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent research skills, including the synthesis of information and verbal and written communication in a compelling and concise form
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in public policy or advocacy and grant writing
  • Excellent research, organizational, and communications skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated success meeting policy or advocacy and grant writing objectives in a timely manner
  • Possess a positive, "can-do" demeanor, flexibility, collaboration, attention to detail, and a high degree of initiative
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and maintain confidentiality
