Job Overview:

The Desktop OS and Hardware Engineering team is seeking an outstanding Linux Desktop Engineer with a passion for collaborating on the delivery of desktop infrastructure solutions for the global enterprise. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, results-oriented person to design and build high performance and powerful desktop solutions that will be used by a large number of Citi developers for critical application development. The role encompasses the following;

• Assisting with the design and maintenance of the RHEL desktop build.
• Assisting with the design and maintenance of OS deployment, upgrade and configuration methodologies.
• Ownership of configuration management for the RHEL desktop build.
• Responsible for testing, approving and operational handover for all RHEL desktop build OS-related patches.
• 3rd Level support for RHEL desktop OS stability and/or performance issues.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining concise technical documentation including; design artefacts and release documentation.

Non-Technical Experience:

• Previous relevant experience required.
• Good level of experience in an engineering role (combination of education/experience).
• Financial Services or large complex and/or global environment experience preferred.
• Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication.
• Ability to analyze and solve business or technical problems.
• Ability to work in a matrix environment and collaborate with virtual teams.
• Ability to take ownership of various parts of a project or initiative.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage to tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements.
• Display a willingness to stay on the leading edge of technology by learning new technologies.

Technical Experience:

• Extensive knowledge of Linux system internals, especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 7 and 8 (yum, rpm, LVM, SELinux, kickstart).
• Intermediate scripting experience (Bash, Perl, Python).
• Intermediate knowledge of virtualization and hypervisors (VMware).
• Intermediate knowledge of how to create Ansible Playbooks and Chef Cookbooks.
• Knowledge of centralized management environments that provide automated provisioning, patching and configuration management services (such as Red Hat Satellite).
• Knowledge of software development lifecycles and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
• Knowledge of Git and modern development workflows.

Education:

• Ideally degree level education, but extensive industry experience will be considered.
• Agile Scrum Product Owner and ITIL Foundation qualifications advantageous.
