Overview:

The Intermediate Care Unit at Mercy Ardmore is a critical care unit that manages the care of critically ill patients that are less acute than the ICU patients. We care for patients that are recovering from or still suffering from respiratory failure, pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, CHF exacerbation or a myriad of other illnesses that require respiratory support. We use cardiac drips like Cardizem and amiodarone drips. We are the Code Blue and Rapid Response Team of the hospital.

Some of the many procedures and skills we see daily/weekly are: NGT placement, foley placement, and PIV placement. We assist physicians with Central Line placement, Arterial Line placement, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Chest Tube placement, Temporary Pacemaker placement, bedside Bronchoscopy, and bedside GI procedures.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; Consideration will be given for comparable education experience and successful licensure.

• Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining a current LPN license within the hiring state in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all State Board of Nursing requirements

• Certification(s): BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire

  • NOTE: One or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe:

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

    • PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)

    • S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support) Six

    • Other unit-specific certifications as required.

• Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.

  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
