Long/short discretionary equity is Point72’s core investment strategy and its success depends on our sector-based investing teams, comprised of Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts.  As an ever-increasing volume and variety of data are used to drive fundamental equity strategies, Data Scientists placed on portfolio manager teams serve as a key resource for many of our investing professionals.

Role

As a data scientist embedded in an equity investing team, you will drive innovation by leveraging a variety of data sources and systems.  You will work directly with a Portfolio Manager and their team of Research Analysts to connect data and fundamental research.  Your work will support investment theses and assist in driving investment decisions.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with a Portfolio Manager and a team of Research Analysts in analyzing a broad universe of compliance approved data that will directly influence idea generation and investment decisions
• Design, build, and maintain data products that enable you to analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant for your specific sector
• Build automated processes for reviewing and analyzing diverse sets of information
• Lead communication and interaction with third-party data vendors
• Write efficient, modular, and dependable code
• Document all work extensively and train teammates on use of work products (such as custom Python libraries, R packages, or custom data)
• Work closely with Point72’s Technology teams to stay on top of the newest technologies approved for use across the Firm
• Partner with Compliance on all aspects such as approved data sources, permissibility of systems and analytics

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree or higher
• Quantitative ability as demonstrated through relevant coursework or work equivalent
• 2+ years of experience (or equivalent) in SQL and Python
• Team player with an entrepreneurial spirit and good communication skills
• Excellent data visualization skills (Tableau, PowerBI, or software libraries in Python)
• Experience analyzing complex data sets
• Deep intellectual curiosity and lifelong-learning mind-set

The annual base salary range for this role is $165,000-$185,000, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
