What You'll Get to Do:

CACI is looking for an experienced Software Systems Engineer to support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center in the design and documentation of interfaces for the on-board Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM) of the Lunar Gateway Space Station.

This engineering position involves analyzing functional interactions between the Lunar Gateway VSM and lower-tier Module Systems Managers (MSMs) and defining the command and data flows to integrate VSM and MSMs. The individual will interface with various stakeholders to understand and document data and command flows as well as to develop and validate models and descriptions of VSM end-to-end operations.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

More About the Role:

Job responsibilities include:

• Perform systems engineering for integrated software control system.
• Analyze and document functional interaction between the Lunar Gateway's VSM and MSMs.
• Research and understand MSM functional and data interfaces.
• Define and document data and command flows needed between VSM and MSMs to support functional interaction.
• Review, help mature, and validate the integrated Systems Modeling Language (SysML) model.
• Maintain the VSM-to-MSM Interface Control Document (ICD).
• Provide support to the Lunar Gateway Mission Management Working Group (MMWG) in defining tasks and constraints that require VMS-MSM interaction.
• Provide input to software architecture and design artifacts.
• Interface with various stakeholders including the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) and development projects.
• Collaborate with domestic and international Gateway partners.
• Interface with NASA and spacecraft designer engineering teams.

This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, TX, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.
• B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
• A minimum of three years of software systems engineering experience.
• Experience defining and implementing distributed avionics and software systems.
• Experience defining interfaces between software applications including developing ICDs.
• Experience developing/maintaining various software architecture and design artifacts including Concept of Operations and Detailed Design documents.
• Experience with EITHER
• Autonomous or remotely controlled systems (e.g., used in satellites, autonomous cars, or unmanned aerial vehicles), OR Avionics and flight software development for human-rated space vehicles, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle.
• Strong evidence of success in highly collaborative projects/environments.
• Ability to succeed in fast-paced environments.
• Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment.
• Possess strong technical expertise combined with verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
• Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
• Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• SysML experience.
• DOORS (or similar requirements management tool) experience.
• Experience with data driven software systems.
• Use case development experience.
• Strong background in software development, particularly in the front part of the lifecycle.
• Experience with Agile software development environments and methodologies.
• Experience with distributed systems.
• Experience in the full life cycle of human-rated space vehicle flight projects. Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion.
