About this role
As a Machine Learning Manager you will lead a team of 10-15 machine learning engineers across Berlin and Canada in Logistics. This role requires close collaboration with data science and backend engineering teams to drive the development, deployment, and optimization of machine learning solutions that deliver impactful business results. The position will focus on managing ML engineering projects, building scalable ML infrastructure, and ensuring alignment with product development efforts.
These are some of the key ingredients to the role:

• Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of ML engineers, ensuring continuous growth and technical excellence. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical rigor. Plan and execute team growth strategies as the organization expands.
• Collaboration with Data Science and Backend Teams: Work closely with data scientists to translate complex models into production-ready solutions. Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate ML models into scalable systems and ensure smooth deployment. Ensure alignment between ML, data science, and backend teams to deliver cohesive and efficient solutions.
• Project Management and Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of ML projects, from model development to deployment in production environments. Manage timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project completion. Monitor and optimize the performance of ML systems in production to ensure they meet business objectives.
• Strategic Alignment: Define ML objectives and ensure they align with broader company goals. Identify opportunities for machine learning applications to address business challenges and create value.
• Technical Oversight: Ensure the scalability, reliability, and ethical use of machine learning models and infrastructure. Drive innovation by exploring and implementing new ML techniques, tools, and methodologies.

What will you bring to the table?

• Hands-on experience in ML engineering or development with experience leading or managing teams in machine learning or AI.
• Strong experience working closely with data science and backend engineering teams.
• Proficiency in ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.
• Experience with MLOps, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with backend technologies and integration of ML models into production systems.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution.
