The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from technologies and investments to supply chain, manufacturing and test operations, facilities management, and information technology services.
Machinist Prototype Senior
What You'll Do:
- Programming and setups daily on prototype work in a variety of metals.
- Machining parts tolerances of (+ -) .0005 daily.
- Complete 1st piece and in-process inspections as needed.
- Design and fabricate basic holding fixtures.
- May assist leads and supervisors in manufacturing process planning.
- May train, mentor, and coordinate the work of lower-level machinists to assure task completion.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
What You'll Need:
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 8 years or more related experience or a 2-year technical degree and 6 years or more related experience
- Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Bachelor's or Master's, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education
- Ability to work in different work centers (3-Axis, Multi-Axis, and Horizontal).
- Flexibility to shift schedules to support the business needs.
- Experience in a prototype machinist environment.
- Basic operation of computers.
- Solid GD&T understanding.
- Programming experience (3-axis and multi-axis) using Mastercam, currently 2022 release.
- Experience with multi-axis dovetail machining preferred.
- Experience with horizontal boring mill preferred.
- Ability to self-manage and driven to achieve quality product.
- Ability to effectively participate in a team environment with members from all disciplines.
- Good communication skills.
Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

- Work is performed in a climate-controlled machine shop.
Relocation for this position is not available.
Compensation & Benefits:
- HIRING SALARY RANGE: $33.17 - $44.71 per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
