As a Magnetic Design Engineer at Lunar, you will be responsible for designing, validating and optimizing various types of magnetic components for Lunar’s electrification systems. On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…
- Work closely with power electronics, mechanical engineering and supply chain teams to design, develop, validate and support manufacturing high reliability low cost high efficiency magnetics components, including but not limited to: inductors, transformers, and EMC filters
- Develop detailed component-level and system-level simulation models for magnetic components in Lunar’s power converters, and perform parasitic, loss, thermal and M/E-field analysisÂ
- Define validation methods and tests for confirming expected behaviors and performance of developed magnetic components
- Be part of system architecture concept design, topology selection, trade-off study and decision making
- Convey design concepts to internal and external manufacturing teams, support manufacturing by reviewing manufacturing processes and initiating engineering instructions
- Communicate proposals, results, and specifications through clear, information-rich data visualizations
Desired Skills:
- Masters or PhD in power electronics
- 6 or more years of experience in magnetic components design and development for power converters
- Solid understanding of magnetic theory and its applications in magnetic components for power electronics systems
- Fluent with magnetic design process, including but not limited to: core selection, different types of winding design (e.g. magnet wire, Litz wire and PCB winding), electrical parasitic analysis, and loss/thermal modeling in power inductors and transformers
- Fluent with multiphysics finite element simulation tools (Maxwell, Ansys etc.).
- Solid understanding of basic power electronics topologies, their switching waveforms and impacts on magnetic components
- Familiarity with power converter circuit simulation tool (LTspice etc.) and circuit design tool (Altium Designer etc.)
- Strong data visualization and technical communication skillsÂ
- Industry experience with magnetic components design towards product-level conducted and radiated EMC is a strong plus
- Experience with high volume manufacturing and quality control is a strong plus

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The salary range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $140k-170k
