Summary
This position is a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-9, working in Cibola, Arizona, for the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge.
This position is also open to status candidates under announcement R2-24-12433993-CL-MP.

- Duties of this position require the employee to obtain and maintain a valid Class A State Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to operate various vehicles and equipment.
- This position is subject to physical examination and drug and alcohol testing requirements as established by the Department of Transportation (49 CFR 391.41 (b)(l) through (b)(13)).
- Driver's License: Selectee required to possess and maintain a valid State driver's license at all times during their tenure.
- The employee is required to wear the USFWS uniform in accordance with Part 041 of the Fish and Wildlife Service Manual.
- Probationary Period: Selectees may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements.
The screen out element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION.
- Technical Practices (Operation of Motor Vehicles).

- Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
- Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
