Maintenance Worker

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Maintenance Worker duties. I am skilled in the operation of engineering equipment such as farm tractors, attachments, and mowers; I can perform minor vehicle servicing and/or maintenance; I can perform gardening work and assist in building repairs. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official

• PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy physical effort is extended by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, legs, and feet to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating in rough terrain. The location of the controls causes the incumbent to work in awkward or strained positions for significant amounts of time. Required to lift, carry and position items weighting up to 50 pounds
• WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and out in all weather conditions. Subject to possible injury from vehicle accident, being hit by low branches,objects thrown by equipment, loading or unloading vehicles, and power equipment and tools. Exposed to noise, vibration, dust,dirt, exhaust fumes; dirty, greasy, oily conditions, mud and chemical sprays. Subject to possible serious injury from falls or overturning of tractor and equipment on rough terrain; minor cuts, bruises, burns, scrapes and broken bones; and danger from splinters and flying chips. Wears protective clothing or other equipment such as eye-guards as needed. No outside work performed during high winds or storm conditions.
