Engineer - Major Underground Engineer

Under moderate supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for engineering and design requirements for the underground secondary network, as well as, other major underground projects throughout IPL's customer territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering design work involving electrical, civil, & mechanical engineering fields.
  • Oversees multiple projects through successful completion using cost-effective measures.
  • Works closely with union, field personnel to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects.
  • Consults with customers regarding Company technical and commercial policies, as well as, the application of designs and equipment of moderate complexity, as assigned.
  • Investigates, implements, and maintains new technologies to improve the reliability and safety of the secondary network.
  • Performs engineering calculations for arc flash and fault current studies.
  • Works with other departments to improve and maintain the current network SCADA system.
  • Assists higher classified engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a customer service focus
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Coding skills a plus, but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with minimum supervision
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent

The position will require the successful candidate to work from the office and out in the field the majority of the time. The potential to work from home will be based on the successful candidate's competency with their assigned duties.
