The Management Accountant is a key member of the Asset Management – ANZ Finance function of the wider AMS segment and the McMillan Shakespeare Group (MMSG) responsible for managing accounting, operational and financial compliance requirements for multiple aspects of the Asset Management division. The Management Accountant will be responsible for business partnering with both AMS operational teams as well as with other functions across the wider MMS Group Finance function.

In your role as Management Accountant, you will be responsible for the day-to-day financial management and analysis of key business units. You will utilise your technical and professional skills/knowledge to ensure best practice and efficient accounting and compliance requirements are met in a timely manner with effective communication and alignment of relevant stakeholders. You will ensuring clear and proper records are maintained in an efficient and effective manner.

You will seek to ensure timely completion of all key period-end and other regular reporting requirements whilst seeking to provide financial support to the operational teams and recommendations and/or insight where applicable. They will feel comfortable engaging with and advising on varying aspects of controllable financial performance.

Such recommendations may include improvements to financial control, efficiency of reporting and system and/or data integration as well as highlighting areas of risk and discrepancy with suggestions for improvement supporting the wider MMS Group compliance obligations.

The role

  • Preparation of monthly management reports tracking financial performance against budget and forecasts for each profit and cost centre including variance analysis
  • Month-end accounting including reconciliations and journals
  • Analysing actual performance versus forecasts and budgets
  • Analysing trends and financial performance across sites and business units
  • Ensuring accurate consolidation of results, budgets and forecasts
  • Play a lead role in budgeting and forecasting requirements for relevant areas
  • Providing commentary on management reports
  • Business partner with Senior Finance, Operational, and Sales stakeholders
  • Support with both internal and external audit requirements
  • Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary systems
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations
  • Assistance in the preparation of cashflow forecasts
  • Supporting systems and process improvement initiatives
  • Ad hoc analysis (e.g. business case modelling)
  • Support continual development and enhancement of reporting systems, and/or assist in the implementation of such new systems as appropriate, whilst ensuring MMS accounting records are efficiently and effectively maintained.
  • Foster a collaborative engagement within and across both financial and operational teams

You will bring:

  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting
  • At least 3+ years as a management accountant or in a similar role
  • Proficiency in the application of Australian Accounting Standards, techniques, concepts and practices
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and performing high level analysis and integration of financial data.
  • Analysing information, recommending and implementing solutions to management accounting issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to team objectives and business goals
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and postgraduate tertiary degree in accounting
  • Preferred membership of professional accounting bodies (CA ANZ, CPA, CIMA)
