Qualifications
For GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-11 or equivalent. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience at the state level in policy development, guidance, training, and field assistance related to Tribal Relations and trust responsibilities. Knowledge and experience of Native American customs and cultures, Indian law and experience coordinating with state agencies and consulting with federally recognized tribes. Analyzing programs that include or effect Native American tribes. Coordinating tribal outreach efforts with external offices. Attending tribal events and/or participating in tribal ceremonies. Developing and providing training and/or guidance on Native American cultures.
For GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-12 or equivalent. Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience at the state and national level in policy development, guidance, training, and field assistance related to Tribal Relations and trust responsibilities. Knowledge and experience of Native American customs and cultures, Indian law and experience coordinating with federal agencies and consulting with federally recognized tribes. Working with Native American tribes on sensitive land management issues. Developing cooperative relationships with Native American tribes. Advising higher-level agency officials on multiple complex land management issues that affect tribal interests. Working with Tribal representatives to positively affect relationships between Tribes and a land management agency.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Tax Law Impact for PCS: Moving expenses reimbursement is a taxable benefit. However, the Federal Travel Regulation 18-05 issued by General Services Administration has authorized agencies to use the Withholding Tax Allowance and Relocation Income Tax Allowance to pay for "substantially all" of the increased tax liability resulting from the "2018 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" for certain eligible individuals.
