Manager, 3D Simulation

Our 3D simulation group is looking for a manager to drive sensor simulation and 3D autonomous system validation. You will foster partnerships with teams across Zoox to leverage our in-house 3D engine, sensors, and world to help validate various aspects of our autonomy stack. You will also be responsible for mentoring and growing an experienced team of engineers to develop production testing pipelines, physically based sensor simulation, and contribute to a scalable and performant 3D engine.

In this role, you will:

• Build relationships with teams across Zoox to validate hardware and software using 3D simulation
• Develop technical roadmaps for sensor simulation, environmental effects, and the 3D engine
• Review and manage execution on designs for new systems and features
• Foster an environment of innovation and constant learning in a fast moving technical space

Qualifications:

• B.S. or higher degree in Engineering or Science, including Robotics, Computer Science, Aerospace, Automotive, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering, or other related fields.
• 8+ years of work experience in simulation or game engine development. 2+ years in people management
• Experience building and expanding high performance rendering systems
• Familiarity with machine learning for vision, generative imagery, or neural rendering
• Strong ability to build customer empathy and oversee projects

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience with computer vision
• Camera, radar, LWIR, or LiDAR simulation expertise
• Background in low level graphics APIs
• Robotics simulation expertise
• History of using data-driven metrics to drive decision making

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary will range from $203,000 - $300,000. A sign-on bonus may be part of a compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
