Position Summary
The Manager - Accessioning, Liquid Profiling is responsible for overseeing all clerical and ancillary duties, ensuring that case workflow is operating consistently, and testing turn-around times are being managed appropriately. They have direct line supervision of all Accessioning Supervisors, managing employee schedules and training, as well as, resolving any professional conflicts that may arise. The Manager troubleshoots any problems with workflow, manages specimen turn-around times and communicates directly with management regarding exceptions, varied timelines, etc. They are also responsible for managing all regulatory activities, enforcing consistent adherence to required regulatory guidelines to ensure the highest quality and consistency of services. While maintaining job functions, the Manager, Accessioning also interacts with other departments to ensure an optimal case flow is consistently achieved and all standard laboratory procedures and policies are followed.
Job Responsibilities
- Manages Accessioning Supervisors and oversees all case workflow activities.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies.
- Follows the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable level of performance.
- Documents all corrective action taken when a system deviates from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Assists with the tracking, accumulation, and computation of performance metrics.
- Ensures accessioning has adequate inventories of supplies.
- Resolves employee relations issues and recommends disciplinary action when required.
- Keeps team informed of new processes and general updates.
- Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support other departments as required.
- Manages employee schedules and is responsible for approving/declining time off and bi-weekly timecards.
- Understands accessioning protocols as set forth by lab management team; communicates questions/clarifies uncertainties.
- Actively engages leadership for instruction and growth, ensuring that supervisors meet high-level expectations.
- Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory and accessioning workspace and applicable equipment/resources.
- Consistently exhibits a professional demeanor in the workplace and works to maintain positive relationships with peers and management.
- Responsible for filing, tracking, retrieval, and accurate record keeping.
- Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling of all materials.
- Logs appropriate information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other logs as necessary.
- Develops new protocols and SOPs to address problems and improve quality and safety within accessioning.
- Works cross-functionally with various departments including Customer Support, IHC, PAs, Pathologists, Lab Operations, Block Returns, and Reporting.
- Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support the laboratory as required.
- Effectively manages complex cross-functional operational activities within and outside the lab with a high degree of independence and strong managerial judgment, and regularly plays a strong Quality Control (QC) role with all lab operations.
- Manages/Assists in the training of new-hires and peers.
- Responsible for establishing appropriate structure to ensure that work is done in the most efficient and productive way.
- Responsible for making decisions to meet organizational goals and for establishing high-level expectations.
- Proficient in troubleshooting problems and successfully maintains workflow in the lab.
- Is consistently viewed by teammates, supervisors, and management as professional, positive, solution-oriented and a leader within the Accessioning Department.
- Actively participates in department recruitment activities.
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 3+ years of experience in general laboratory operations required.
- Conditions of Employment: Individuals must successfully complete pre-employment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening, and reference verification. Also, individuals must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by the date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based jobs, if not currently employed by Caris Life Sciences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline, preferred.
- 3+ years' experience in an accredited laboratory; 2+ years' experience in a Supervisor capacity preferred.

Physical Demands
- Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time.
- May have exposure to blood-borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, high noise levels, fumes and bio-hazardous material/chemical including formalin in the lab environment.
- Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail. Ability to pass a visual color discrimination test.
- Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
