Job Summary

The Manager, Business Intelligence will be responsible for managing a team of Data Visualization Analysts (titles TBD) delivering Business Intelligence to F&G.  In addition to managing the team, this role will also provide individual contributor support for customers as needed.

Customers are primarily focused on the Retail Business Unit, but at times will expand beyond Retail.

The team is responsible for data, dashboard and operational modeling needed to provide customers with near-real-time Business Intelligence. Scope of work includes data capture & integration, development of static reporting and explorable dashboards, and modeling operational processes to project possible future outcomes.  This position will collaborate with business stakeholders, business leaders, and subject matter experts in understanding their reporting needs.  Additionally, the role is responsible for collaboration and coordination with IT staff to meet the delivery objectives and with Risk partners to ensure risk is effectively managed through testing, appropriate customer review and signoff, and automated monitoring/validation where appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Team Management (50%)

  • Direct the efforts of a team of Business Intelligence professionals to deliver on the BI needs of customers across F&G
  • Recruit, onboard and develop resources needed to deliver on the responsibilities for the team.
  • Ensure the team is using F&G Guidelines and Best Practices for design, development and controls through their work.
  • Continual identification and evaluation for opportunities to improve team performance through time management, skills development, tool usage, more effective engagement model, etc..
  • Identify and execute on initiatives that will enhance data-driven decisions throughout the organization

Relationship Management (25%)

  • Lead Tableau Community of Practice as requested.
  • Serve as primary contact for identified customers within F&G, including but not limited to, Sales, Operations, Planning, Marketing, Compliance, EPMO, and Human Resources.
  • Utilize, support and continually improve the Analytics Team customer engagement model to drive efficient use of analytics resources and customer satisfaction.
  • Partner with other analytics leaders to effectively prioritize all department initiatives spanning all customers.
  • Partner with Business Technology Advisory Council (BTAC) to ensure utilization of best practices within the Analytics team.
  • Partner with the IT Data Leadership to ensure effective and appropriate use of Analytics resources and Data Management resources.
  • Partner with IT to ensure the Analytics team has current and effective tools to support the business needs, including appropriate environments for development, testing and production.

Business Intelligence Development (25%)

  • Gather and prepare data from various actuarial, operational, product development, and other systems to support reporting and analytics
  • Design, develop, and support automated reports and dashboards using SSMS, Alteryx, Tableau, or other similar tools such as Power BI
  • Support ad-hoc reporting and data extract requests
  • Design and/or develop database objects (databases, tables, stored procedures) to support the collection, tracking and reporting of business data
  • Provide consultative support by answering questions about the available data and the data that is possible to capture from the third-party systems
  • Provide input to project planning, status and review meetings.
  • Perform unit and integration testing, and participate in reporting validation and QA efforts as they pertain to reporting and data analytics
  • Provide support for miscellaneous data projects and initiatives
  • Participate in strategic planning around future development and integration of data from various operational sources to support the reporting needs of the business

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred emphasis in computer science, analytics, or MIS)
  • 7+ years experience in related technical/business positions
  • 2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience
  • 3+ years of experience designing/developing data integrations using various data sources
  • 3+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence solutions: operational and analytical, strong knowledge of relational and multi-dimensional database architectures
  • 3+ years of experience writing SQL queries and knowledge of SQL
  • 3+ years of experience developing business intelligence dashboards with visualization
  • Experience leading technical team preferred
  • Experience with Life Insurance and Indexed Annuity data preferred
  • Experience with Big Data, and Master Data Management preferred
  • Experience with workflow automation tools (ie Tableau or Alteryx) preferred
