The Manager, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is responsible for the build-out and day-to-day oversight of the SIU function within the Claims organization in compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will partner with leaders and other stakeholders across the organization for other ad hoc SIU needs. This position will manage all SIU Investigators and the SIU program within Claims for the Workers' Compensation and Commercial Auto lines of business. This role reports directly to the VP, Claims Operations.
How You'll Do It
  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication
    • Conduct comprehensive analysis of data and files being worked by the Claims team, including the Underwriting team, as needed to prevent payment of fraudulent claims
    • Support the development and communication of SIU programs, practices, and policies
    • Promote a growth culture within Pie that emphasizes anti-fraud alertness
    • Facilitate live training and discussions related to SIU initiatives as needed
    • Partner with Claim leaders and the Underwriting organization to extract themes and needs
    • Collaborate with other departments, including but not limited to the Underwriting, Compliance, and L&D teams for cross-departmental projects as required
  • Own all SIU processes, systems, and reporting
    • Manage and oversee the day-to-day handling of Special Investigations Unit along with all investigations as well as the technologies and tools required to develop, manage, and deliver SIU processes and reporting
    • Conduct field work as needed
    • Verify and maintain the accuracy of data
    • Create metrics to evaluate SIU processes' effectiveness
    • Update and maintain materials and tools (i.e. process documents, decks, pdfs, eLearning, and reference materials) to reflect feedback and company changes
    • Ensure we are partnering with the Claims Regulatory Reporting Specialist and Compliance team to report investigations to regulatory agencies accurately
  • People Management
    • Hire and develop Claims SIU Investigators by identifying opportunities to grow and strengthen new skills
    • Manage the onboarding, coaching, and development of a team of SIU Investigators
    • Set strategy and goals for Claims SIU Investigators personnel in alignment with larger Claims goals and KPIs
    • Strong leadership and performance management capabilities to guide and inspire Claims SIU Investigators to achieve KPIs
  • Creation of Claims specific SIU practices and strategy
    • Collaborate with Claims senior leaders to create and maintain SIU best practices and processes to prevent, detect, investigate and report fraud to appropriate regulatory agencies for all of Claims staff and additional partner departments
    • Partner with the Claims Compliance and Underwriting team to ensure unified SIU strategy across various departments

The Right Stuff
  • 4+ years SIU for both Workers' Compensation and Commercial Auto
  • 2+ years SIU, Claims, Surveillance manager experience
  • Advanced communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills, to deliver complex information effectively and align people with the needs of the project/team
  • Advanced problem solving skills, to be able to manage complex situations with multiple layers , and resolve to solution ant icipating needs now and into the future.
  • Advanced awareness of your own and your team's tasks, and how it impacts the organization and deliverables
  • Advanced leadership skills with experience leading large or technical teams through complex deliverables.
  • G-Suite Tools, Collaboration tools (Slack is preferred)
  • Excel, HRIS (e.g., WorkDay), LMS (e.g., Continu preferred)
  • High School diploma or GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred

Compensation range for position: $85,000 - $115,000

Location Information
Unless otherwise specified, this role has the option to be hybrid or remote. Hybrid work locations provide team members with the flexibility of working partially from our Denver or DC office and from home. Remote team members must live and work in the United States* (*territories excluded), and have access to reliable, high-speed internet.
