IFC is seeking to recruit a Manager,Climate Finance and Policy. The position will be based in Washington, DC,United States.
The Manager, Climate Finance and Policy will be part of the Climate Business Management Team and willwork to provide leadership to the climate business strategy, operations,business growth, portfolio oversight, and talent management globally withinthese business lines. The selectedcandidate will report to the Director, Climate Business.
Duties and Accountabilities
β’ Paris Alignment (PA): Lead the roll out of PA in IFC, including framing the policy in collaboration with external stakeholders such as the MDBs, other DFIs, CSOs and with internal stakeholders including sector teams, management and board, operationalizing PA through developing relevant trainings and detailed guidance notes and materials for different sectors.β’ Climate Metrics: certification of all climate business transactions across IFC, with the focus on client service and quality delivery. β’ Climate Disclosure: leading work on all climate related disclosures internally and externally for IFC including climate finance numbers and for the TCFD report.β’ Climate Finance: development of new climate finance business models/frameworks such as transition finance for IFC's balance sheet, and in cooperation with the Climate Anchors Network, for the investment departments in IFC. Leading the Green and sustainable finance instruments work for IFC and supporting internal and external clients.β’ Climate Risk: leading work on climate risk across IFC developing appropriate tools and frameworks to undertake assessments at the project level.β’ Identification of New Climate Investment Sectors: Lead the team to identify and develop new program areas for climate business including biodiversity in collaboration with the industry and regional departments. Provide strategic leadership and identify business opportunities in new emerging climate areas.β’ Knowledge Management: Provide information, knowledge, and training on climate business sectors to investment officers and operational staff throughout the corporation. This includes managing the GBTAP program for training on sustainable finance instruments for existing and potential issuers.β’ Thought Leadership and Innovation: Work closely with IFC's Economics Vice Presidency to develop climate thought leadership products and reports. Identify new trends, opportunities and ideas that are emerging in climate space.β’ Relationships & External engagement: Maintain a strong network of climate professionals across key climate sectors ensure up-to-date knowledge in the field and IFC's standing as a thought leader. The Manager will also build and maintain a strong internal network of IFC Managers, Directors, and Senior Management to strengthen internal buy-in for climate work. Work closely with her/his counterparts at the World Bank on climate related issues and participate in such events as the COP and represent IFC in external events from time to timeβ’ Provide the full range of administrative and HR management oversight.
Selection Criteria
β’ A Master's degree and a minimum 12 years of relevant climate related work experience. Engineering or technical background in climate a plus.β’ Experience working in one or more climate sectors. Proven knowledge of climate science, technologies, and requirements for the ongoing transition to low carbon economies.β’ Excellent background in IFC investment operations or similar organizations, gained preferably in sectors relevant to climate, such as agribusiness, infrastructure, construction, or financial institutions.β’ Ability to represent IFC externally and to develop and manage relationships at senior levels with clients, government, media, donors, civil society organizations and other stakeholders. β’ Ability to work closely within the WBG to leverage its expertise in climate.β’ Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop innovative solutions, challenge the status quo and make sound decisions to build IFC business. β’ Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenge the status quo to build the business.β’ Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback; new ideas and ability to guide staff in finding solutions to problems.β’ Recognized as a team player and leader, ability to integrate, manage and resolve conflict, working in a complex matrix and gaining influence with or without using direct authority.β’ Strong written and verbal communications skills. β’ Highest standards of ethical integrity, transparency, and fairness.β’ Experience selecting, coaching, and appraising staff; planning and managing staff to achieve quality results; encouraging innovation in an open team-based environment; inspiring trust; and work experience in at least two regions. β’ Knowledge in investments, gained preferably in sectors relevant to climate, such as infrastructure, construction, climate tech, manufacturing or financial institutions.β’ Meet Bank Group-wide managerial selection criteria including courage of your convictions, leading the team for impact, influencing across boundaries, fostering openness to new ideas, building talent for the future.
