Manager, Clinical Performance Operations
Job Description
Pearl Health is restoring the independence and joy of practicing medicine for doctors in the United States. Our healthcare system has burdened our doctors with too much process, while removing them from what they do best: caring for those we love most. We are a team of physicians (Groups), technologists (Athena, Hudson River Trading) and health plan leaders (Oscar, Clover, Centivo) who believe that primary care providers (PCPs) are the key to the United States’ future health. Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Viking Global Investors, AlleyCorp, and SV Angel.
We are launching Pearl Health to help PCPs who are overwhelmed by the demands of an aging population and the unpredictable business model inherent to Traditional Medicare. Over time, this solution will empower PCPs to provide better care to their entire patient population. We believe there is a need to bring humanism back to healthcare by giving physicians the ability to better allocate their time with patients, increasing their autonomy, creating incentives that are aligned with achieving better outcomes through clinical decision-making powered by actionable intelligence, and making risk more available and more readily optimized through an intelligent marketplace. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) is launching a new value-based care program to disrupt Traditional Medicare, and we believe that this represents an opportunity to achieve the meaningful change we envision.
What we hope you can do...Pearl’s Performance Operations team leads initiatives aimed to improve client performance in value-based care programs (specifically focused on the ACO REACH program). We are responsible for translating performance opportunities into actionable approaches, incubating and testing new ideas, and partnering with our Product and Customer Success colleagues to scale those that work.
We are seeking a highly skilled Operations Manager to lead the buildout of our Clinical Performance Operations. In this role, you will work closely with our Clinical and Data Science teams to develop performance signals, design relevant clinical pathways, and roll out new capabilities for our clients. You should be: a systematic thinker who is comfortable prioritizing multiple critical projects; an effective communicator; and a leader who can help Pearl sprint toward operational and clinical excellence. A familiarity, passion, and willingness to dig into the possibilities offered by value-based care programs would make you an ideal candidate. This role will report to our Head of Performance Operations.
What a Manager, Clinical Performance Operations means to us...
- Manage process and content design for various clinical interventions, in close collaboration with clinical leadership.
- Identify, scope, and implement opportunities to systematize processes across our performance capabilities.
- Partner with Clinical and Data Science teams on the definition of operational and clinical KPIs, as well as with the Product team to scale operations through our core technology platform.
- Support the evaluation of potential clinical and/or specialty risk partners to augment the Pearl offering.
- Partner across the organization to ensure successful implementation of critical initiatives.
- Help develop a best-in-class team that celebrates diversity and continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- 4-5 years of experience in healthcare operations, population health, and/or value-based care (experience within startup environments is a plus, but not required)
- Familiar with risk-based care models and performance drivers
- Passionate about problem solving and optimizing complex processes – you love thinking about problems from a systems perspective
- Metric-driven; comfortable working in an environment in which hypotheses are framed around data-driven assumptions
- Experienced working in cross-functional teams and communicating with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority; bonus points for experience working closely with Clinical and Product teams
- A clinical background is preferred
