Position Summary

The Manager, in collaboration with and direction from the Director of Supply Chain Operations, is responsible for the management of day-to-day operation and efficient management and oversight of the ordering and inventory of OR Surgical Supply, Medical Supply Stores and General Stores. The Manager facilitates ordering and receiving, inventory, record keeping, and surgical and medical supplies, equipment preparation and delivery. The position also requires assisting in developing, updating and maintaining policies and procedures in accordance with the Joint Commission, OSHA guidelines and other regulatory agencies to ensure proper preparation, storage and distribution of surgical equipment and SPD supplies. The Supervisor will supervise the Supply staff. The Manager reports to the Director of Supply Chain Operations.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Support the continued efforts to optimize the ERP system and as well as associated business processes.
  • Ensure departmental budgets meet organizational targets.
  • Builds capabilities to hit annual goals and objectives, (including stretch targets) in coordination with corporate objectives, and manages performance to ensure attainment. This includes the direct training and supervision of the materials supervisor in the performance of their duties.
  • Leads the activities of all functions involved in the control of surgical and medical materials from the receipt of forecasting replenishment needs to the delivery of requested goods to COH end users and ensures an adequate supply of supplies and equipment exist to meet area needs.
  • Manages inventory and establishes controls to ensure COH is operating at the highest level of performance based on key performance metrics and minimized supply chain risk. Prepares reports on cost analysis to be discussed with department in order to make a final decision concerning vendors and pricing.
  • Where necessary, partners with Physicians & Nursing leadership to develop technical requirements and specifications, strategies, policies, procedures, and overall team to optimize value of the entire function in creating a world class operation. Attend meetings and participates on committees as required. Communicates relevant issues to the Department Head, physicians and other staff members.
  • Assists the Director in the development of market-wide strategy of policies and procedures in-stock inventory, inventory control, receiving, distribution, material processing, and product returns.
  • Create and maintain an efficient organization structure, manage talent and role model strong leadership behaviors.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field or equivalent required. Experience may substitute.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Operational Supply Chain related roles.
  • 1 to 3 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting. Must be an individual with confidence and speed in execution.
  • Proven leadership skills in building and managing front line teams with a history of success in executing projects in support of strategic business initiatives.
  • Thorough knowledge of surgery processes and procedures, infection control and work flow principles and requirements, and equipment and supply inventory protocols.
  • Complete knowledge of clinical operations, hospital mission and goals and human resources policies and procedures.
  • Advanced English written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task, delegate appropriately and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide direction and development to employees by coaching, identifying training needs, assigning progressively challenging projects, and assisting in career development planning.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems in a systematic, logical, and timely manner.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in daily routine.
  • Recent experience with and knowledge of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment, and familiarity with surgical procedures to effectively plan operational activities.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively coordinate the efforts of support staff.
  • Analytical ability to maintain records, investigates variances, evaluate and resolve problems.

Preferred education experience and skills:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Formal training in health care, business, or materials management obtained through college credits
