Job Description Summary
As part of AAM's corporate communications team, support the company's business objectives through various cross-channel communications initiatives that elevate AAM's global brand. This role will focus primarily in three areas: corporate citizenship, media relations and overall corporate communications support.
Job Description
Corporate Citizenship: Support AAM's broad community engagement and global charitable giving strategy using a variety of tools to increase awareness, participation, recognition and impact. This area has dual responsibilities: 1) work with appropriate staffs to develop and implement programming designed to create a positive impact in the communities in which we live and work; 2) create awareness of AAM's charitable impact to increase employee participation and external awareness of AAM's role as an exceptional corporate citizen.
AAM is a recognized leader in community engagement, charitable contributions, employee volunteerism and corporate giving. This role will support specific activities to further facilitate and increase awareness of AAM's philanthropic engagement globally:
- As appropriate, gather information from nonprofit organizations to assess their needs, mission and fit with AAM's core community/charitable mission in consideration of possible AAM support.
- Working with AAMs charitable committee, help determine level of sponsorship, monetary support, or volunteer activity to organizations requesting AAM assistance.
- Support oversight of AAM's charitable activity program (monetary and time) for all global locations.
- Represent AAM at various community events and charitable activities as needed.
- Lead communication initiatives regarding sponsorships and events to ensure Associate involvement/support.
- Assist with associate volunteerism activities, including local outreach and community partnerships.
- Create metrics to measure the effectiveness of individual initiatives and overarching program.
- Prepare promotional materials as needed pre- and post-activity, including press materials other outreach as appropriate.
Media Relations: Working with Director, Communications & Community Relations, support development and execution of media strategy. This includes engaging media and other external audiences in support of AAM's industry thought leadership:
- Conducting and coordinating interviews with media and AAM subject matter experts as appropriate.
- Mining the global organization for relevant, interesting, leadership stories.
- Pitching and promoting product, people, technology, award, manufacturing, sustainability, social responsibility and other leadership stories.
- Utilizing recognized AP Style, drafting press releases and other thought leadership content including op-eds, columns, advertorials, media responses, Q&A, corporate statements.
- Proofreading all materials for accuracy and AAM tone.
- Representing AAM at media events, shows, speaking engagements as needed.
- Support crisis management and proactive crisis communications strategy.
- Assisting with clipping service, collecting media articles, distribution, measuring coverage.
- Helping create and execute key performance indicators related to thought leadership.
- Distributing press releases to media and other thought leaders, follow up with media, answering questions as required.
Corporate Communications: As a member of the AAM communications team, support all team members and initiatives as demand dictates. This includes helping internal, events, content creation and administrative activities, as well as communications support for other AAM departments.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required as this is a high visibility position, interacting with multiple departments and all levels of associates, including senior management.
- Support the development of AAM's Annual Report and Sustainability report to ensure consistency with AAM's external messaging.
- Develop content as it relates to community and charitable activities, sustainability initiatives and positive news related to AAM.
Required Skills and Education
- Strong Interpersonal skills with self-awareness and the ability to adjust with tact, respect and courtesy. Eager to learn new skills.
- Ability to work harmoniously with all associates and vendors. Ability to multitask and pivot as needed. Team focused with the willingness to assist associates with projects wherever needed.
- Excellent correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary directed by the AP Style guide.
- Display confidence and poise during public speaking engagements.
- Degree in communications, public relations or related field preferred.
