WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Prototyping of footwear concepts is crucial to product creation and decision-making at Nike! We do everything from incubating new designs and technologies to producing one-of-a-kind products for Nike's most high-profile Athletes and Influencers. Our team is a vital component in crafting the future of Footwear. And the Bowerman Footwear Lab's Concept Engineering team is a crucial player that enables innovation and speed throughout Nike's Footwear teams. The role of Manager: Concept Engineering will play a vital role in shaping the future of footwear pattern engineering at Nike. They will lead a team of highly skilled engineers responsible for actualizing the innovative footwear concepts of the future. They will need to be technically apt, with high aptitude for leadership, comfortable working around footwear manufacturing machinery, able to create a robust recruitment and training strategy for concept engineers and lead a vision of how Concept Engineering should evolve as we move to a more digitally enabled future.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?
  • Create and drive concept engineering processes that balance stakeholder priorities, leverage industry best-practices, and appropriately deploy capital and personnel investments in support of the Bowerman Footwear Lab's mission and strategy
  • Work with Concept Creation Manager to ensure upper prototyping process runs smoothly through the Bowerman Footwear Lab
  • Be a great leader, coach, and teacher to a team of engineering professionals; create and foster an environment of openness, trust, and respect; set ambitious goals and hold the team accountable
  • Drive Concept Engineering team workload governance, process improvements to optimize throughput and capacity, deliver team KPI's
  • Champion testing and implementing new digital tools that increase prototyping speed, accuracy to design and downstream communication
  • Identify and present new capabilities for Concept Engineering that align with BFL/Nike strategy (i.e. technology, equipment, methods)
  • Recruit amazing talent to the Bowerman Footwear Lab; Develop a strategy that creates the next generation of experts and leadership for Concept Engineering
  • Lead an inclusive strategy to promote and encourage employee engagement

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?
  • You will partner with internal specialists within the Bowerman Footwear Lab, as well as from across Nike's Design, Global Footwear and Innovation teams.
  • You will work with cross-functional teams to create a future vision of Concept Engineering on the Nike campus.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING?
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree
  • Minimum 5 years directly relevant work experience in product creation, product development, project management, engineering, manufacturing, or related field; Footwear pattern engineering experience a plus
  • Creative energy and thoughtful leadership for a complex, matrixed organization
  • A passion for building, coaching, and developing diverse, inclusive, and high-performance teams
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work cross-functionally and create trust among those with diverse personal styles
  • Ability to implement digital tools to increase workplace efficiencies
  • Comfort working on the different types of machines used to manufacture footwear (i.e. sewing machines, presses, welders, lasers)
  • Demonstrated expertise in transitioning prototypes into manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience in product design, development, pattern engineering, prototyping, additive manufacturing technologies or related subject; experience in footwear or textiles industries is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in 3D modeling or digital prototyping capabilities, or in leading teams with these capabilities; experience in Footwear or Patterning software a plus
