Job Description:

Stryker's Design Manager is responsible for inspiring and leading the Design team through the research and development of physical and digital products in the Instruments Division. This role is hybrid, working 3-4 days per week in the office, at our Portage, MI location.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As a Manager, Design, you will demonstrate user-centered research, creative problem solving, human factors, manufacturing, and visual brand language expertise. The Design Manager is accountable for identifying user-centered project needs, setting design direction, and enabling informed decision making throughout projects. You are responsible for resource planning and managing external partners. Candidates must demonstrate leadership qualities with a design portfolio to match and have the ability to create and drive design strategy within the business.

Responsibilities of the role include:

• Collaborate with senior leaders to determine resource plan for each project.
• Partner with senior leaders to strategize and execute customer facing activities like Voice of Customer and customer centered design activities across the business.
• Coordinate and delegate the activities of Design personnel.
• Collaborate with Marketing and R&D partners (or delegate) to establish design inputs during research and product development.
• Responsible for planning, selection, and management of external design partners, budgets, and deliverables.
• Champion and coach Human Centered Design Thinking across projects.
• Accountable for Stryker's design language and documentation across projects.
• Evaluate the performance of the team based on pre-established performance parameters.
• Coach and develop direct reports.
• Responsible for direct reports complying with company policies and corrective actions.
• Will submit periodic reports on areas of responsibility.
• May have personal contact with customers.
• Interview, hire, train, develop and engage top talent while ensuring a pipeline of talent is established for future roles.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Product Design or related degree
• 8+ years of relevant experience
• Design Portfolio showcasing commercialized product experience.

Preferred:

• Masters in Industrial or Product Design or related.

Travel Percentage: 20%
