The Manager, Furniture Design is responsible for managing the Design resources located within their respective Furniture Region. In addition, the Design Manager is responsible for pre- and post-sale designs, plans, and furnishings of multiple large complex interior environments for commercial and industrial buildings. This position will also participate in completing their own operational services tasks necessary to support the regional sales initiatives. This position will implement the established company goals and is accountable for meeting and exceeding these goals for their area of responsibility.
Primary Responsibility:
- Manage the workload of the Regional Furniture Design team members. Assign design projects generated by the sales team and Director of Sales to Designers. Collaborate with the respective Director of Sales to achieve appropriate sales support activities to allow location sellers to meet their sales objectives. Work closely with Furniture Designers to identify and alleviate cost-only errors related to product specification. Utilize the monthly Cost-Only Report to identify the errors and develop a plan to stop the errors from occurring.
- Coach, mentor, and evaluate Region Designers to maintain maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Identify training needs and work directly with the Director of Operations to develop programs to improve the knowledge base (product, processes, and computer programs) of the Region design team. Participate in hiring all associates within the team.
- Consult with sales representatives and interface directly with customers to determine parameters of the project, which include architectural preferences, purpose, and function of environment, budget, types of construction, equipment to be installed, and other factors, that affect planning interior environments. Deliver complex design ideas through presentation boards, binders, floor plans, isometrics, and other drawings or illustrations and/or perspectives to successfully communicate the design theme and plan to the sales representative and customer. Prepare data for client presentations. Acting as lead in presenting product ideas, space planning, and overall design objectives.
- Create floor plans, furniture plans, complex panel plans, installation drawings, electrical and communication plans, and/or detail drawings of the application. Create color and finish schedules, and complete specifications for furnishings, upholstery, accessories, window, wall, and floor treatment. Select and design or purchase furnishings, artwork, and accessories.
- Perform project needs analysis, provide project status reviews, and review installation drawings with Project Managers or sales representatives to ensure the design project meets customer's expectations. Partner with sales representatives to gather information and customer's requirements, parameters, or specifications related to a project, perform initial design concept activities, prepare interior finish specifications, schedule SIF file deliverables, and prepare implementation plan of deliverables. Verify product application with vendors.
- Manage the use of outsourced design resources and monthly reporting by region and evaluate the use of the outsourced design resources versus internal design resources. lex panel plans, installation drawings, electrical and communication plans, and/or detail drawings of application. Create color and finish schedules, complete specification for furnishings, upholstery, accessories, window, wall, and floor treatment. Select and design or purchase furnishings, artwork, and accessories.
Education & Experience:
- Commercial furniture product knowledge and specification a plus.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in design within a contract furniture dealer.
- Experience with CET Configura, Spec, CAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Excel.
- Creativity skills with working knowledge of design methods.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines.
- Organizational and project management skills with the ability to multiple and often conflicting demands of sales representatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to respond positively to the demands and challenges of sales representatives.
- Ability to interpret and synthesize a variety of requirements, specifications, and information provided in written and verbal instructions, diagrams, and free-form drawing formats.
- Problem solving skills with the ability to provide solutions to practical problems.
- Must be personable and presentable at all times.
- Must be a self-starter and able to make own decisions in timely manner.
- Able to give and take direction well and execute efficiently and effectively.
- Flexible with respect to change initiatives.
Compensation Range = Minimum: $70,000.00 to Maximum: $95,000.00 (for Salaried/Exempt roles)
