Manager, DPA Software Engineering (Shared Services Technology)
Job Description
The team enables all Business Units across the bank by supporting DPA initiatives and provides business value by implementing solutions that will improve productivity and efficiencies.
We are looking for a Manager, SW Engineering who can help us develop and deliver these capabilities and support Northern Trust's client-centric philosophy to employ a solutions-based technology strategy that is based on three core pillars:

- Able to learn new Digital Process Automation (DPA) technologies quickly as new technologies come to the market: Digital (user experience, information capture and delivery), Cognition and action (AI, RPA, Machine Learning, NLP/NLG, smart workflow tools).
EXPECTATIONS:
- Responsible for managing an applications group(s) for various projects. Consults with business unit partners to determine the most effective computer utilization. Responsible for phase report studies, time and cost estimates, implementation of new or revised application system and hardware requirements, docket prioritization, and related budget considerations.
- Hands on experience in with enterprise document and electronic messaging management for business, legal and compliance requirements, including, but not limited to IBM FileNet, IBM Content Collector, IBM Atlas, IBM eDiscovery, IBM Enterprise Records Manager, and Exterro, is preferred.
- Able to provide direction and technical advice to other team members.
- Maintains risk management and compliance programs and activities for their assigned group.
- Provides input and support to budget management process
- Identifies business needs and develops conceptual systems design. May also provide input and validate system design.
- Ensures completion of management status reporting for projects, metrics and availability reporting.
- Advises systems staff on the impact of systems enhancements to existing designs.
- Provides project planning including docket prioritization and capital or expense budget considerations.
- Reviews and negotiates vendor software package contracts. May also direct management of vendor support statement of work.
- Markets systems products and services to other partners or clients. May also work closely with business unit partners to define and review Service Level Agreements and to ensure services meet or exceed business needs.
- Communicates with various business areas and outside vendors, consultants, and clients
- regarding automation needs. May also help identify measures to improve applications stability and availability, sustain and improve cost efficiencies and productivity gains.
- Ensures compliance with all technology controls and audit requirements including change control procedures and data security.
- Conducts performance management and career development processes, provides input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provides hands-on training to staff.
- Responsible for hiring / onboarding and associated expense management
- Responsible for goal setting, periodic feedback, mid-year and annual reviews, and compensation management.
- Develops periodic goals, organizes the work, sets short-term priorities, monitors all activities, and ensures timely and accurate completion of the work.
- Responsible for contractor management (onboarding / offboarding contractors, monitoring spend, approving timesheets, providing performance feedback to vendors, etc.)
- Responsible for assigning resources to projects & production support tasks
- Responsible for reviewing / maintaining the department resource plan for both employees and contractors
- Carries out activities that are large in scope, cross-functional and technically difficult.
- Knowledge of programming languages, various business applications, state of the art technology, and current trends in the computer industry is required to consult with business unit partners to determine effective computer utilization. Knowledge of various application designs and programming techniques, usually acquired through related experience, is required to develop conceptual system design. Analytical and problem solving skills are needed for systems guidance.
- Leadership and organizational skills are required to develop periodic goals and to manage and motivate team members towards the goals set.
- Excellent communications skills and able to work independently and with a team.
- Work experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills.
- Ability to communicate well with team members and business users.
- Over 10 years of progressive IT experience
