Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager leads, develops and provides strategic direction to the engineering and site master plan process to meet the goals of the Blue Diamond Grower's Global Supply Team, specifically in the 5 key focus areas of Safety, Quality, Service, Performance and People. Collaborates with cross-functional departments to ensure the proper scope, execution, and handover of capital projects and engineered solutions.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Leads, organizes, develops and provides strategic direction to the engineering team and capital projects to meet company objectives resulting in margin enhancement for the manufacturing site but also Global Supply as a whole.
  • Oversees site master plan to ensure capital expenditure process delivers objectives for ongoing needs and innovation.
  • Manages capital expenditure process with site master plan to ensure proper planning exists for strategic plan horizon as well as managing execution of projects.
  • Ensures that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Supports process and reliability improvement activities
  • Drives continuous improvement methodologies to ensure strong execution of projects.
  • Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
  • Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine cost benefit and financial feasibility.
  • Coordinates with corporate resources to ensure site and projects are compliant with environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records, budgets, and project team meetings to inform management of the status of each project.
  • Collaborates with other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that key performance indicators are met and sustained, aligning resources, and sustaining systems as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Reviews operations and plans to meet requirements for sales planning and to ascertain engineering requirements to develop new markets.
  • Drives standard and custom capital construction and equipment development projects by deploying proven methods of project planning and management.
  • Responsible for the coordination of schedules and specifications, associated with building construction and equipment sourcing, design, and installation.
  • This position will work with construction, equipment vendors, and project engineers and serve as a liaison for BDG.
  • Adhere to all procedures, design standards, and practices associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.
  • Assist with the training and implementation of all practices and procedures associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.
  • Collaborates with operations on problem solving and reliability efforts where appropriate

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 years with a bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 7 years with a 2-year technical degree with experience executing engineering projects.
  • Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering
  • Two-year technical degree with applicable project engineering experience
  • Previous people leadership experience.
  • Experience leading large capital projects.
  • Proficient in computer skills using software in word processing, spreadsheets and relational database systems.
  • Experience performing detailed capital planning schedules to ensure long and short-term production requirements are met.
  • Experienced working under and meeting tight deadlines.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • CPG food or beverage manufacturing experience.
  • Experience leading a maintenance team in a manufacturing environment
  • Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering experience.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working proactively as a member of a project team or organization.
  • Experience communicating (both written and verbal) as well as working with various levels within an organization.
  • Skilled at explaining technical processes to an audience possessing varying levels of technical acumen.
  • Skilled in operating with a great degree of flexibility resulting from ever-changing market conditions.
  • PMP certification is desired.
  • Good organization, communication, analytical and project management skills;
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale capital equipment projects; working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; SAP is preferred.
  • Strong software skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task/work with multiple managers
  • Must be a proactive team player. Will have continuous contact with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external contacts. Must be able to function effectively as a leader or member in a team environment; able to translate concepts into concrete examples.
  • Must have strong technical knowledge covering a wide range of food processing equipment.
  • Must be a self-starter. Demonstrated ability to produce on schedule. Act independently in a constructive manner. Strongly motivated to improve self.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to physically move throughout the facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas. Able to sit/work at a desk for extended periods of time doing things such as analytical work or reports, which requires focus, while utilizing a computer. Weekend work required as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, dirty work conditions, fumes and odors from welding and other maintenance processes, poor lighting, and wet operation work conditions. Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking. Must be able to work all shifts.
