Manager - Experience Design (Payments)

Airbnb’s Design team is looking for a Manager to shape the future of our payments platform and the guest and Host communities that process close to a billion dollars every day. This person will be a hands-on inspirational leader revolutionizing how guests book for travel to the tools and ecosystems that empower Hosts to manage their earnings and set revenue goals you’ll collaborate with industry leaders and innovative technology to reimagine the future of financial services and technology. The difference you will make:

As a Manager Experience Design on Payments you will be a key voice in the strategic direction of Airbnb’s payments platform. You will be responsible for delivering near-term product launches and the end user experience along with shaping the team’s visions strategy and long-term innovation — partnering with fellow design teams and cross-function partners.

You will support coach and develop reports distributed across reimagining the guest booking experience to economically empowering Hosts through robust tools providing actionable insights and data innovative experiences that adapt and scale to a diverse and global community. You’ll establish design directions work with cross-functional leadership on strategy and collaborate with fellow teams to deliver and build highly polished experiences. You and your direct reports will author high quality digital products tools and education to the broader Design organization. Together you will be the stewards of systematic thinking intuitive interactions and attention to every pixel.

The ideal candidate is an experienced design leader well-versed in vision setting communication organizational leadership and people-centric management. Together with fellow Design Managers and Directors you will be responsible for the impact and health of the design team as well as the end-to-end user experiences they create. Success in this role is defined by team sentiment as well as the quality impact consistency ease of use and beauty of your work. This Manager role will report to a Senior Manager Experience Design.

A typical day:

• Support and shape the evolution of the Airbnb payments platform from a design perspective; ensure consistency with and contribute to our brand architecture and product architecture.

• Build and manage a well-rounded team of Experience Designers that consistently deliver on Airbnb’s priorities and design high-quality products and experiences.

• Collaborate closely with Design leadership on overall team performance health resource allocation prioritization and building a culture of design excellence.

• In close partnership with Product Engineering Data Science Research and UX Writing drive a holistic vision and strategy and lead multiple initiatives from inception to launch.

Your expertise:

• 10+ yrs of product design experience.

• 2+ years experience managing or leading design teams in matrixed organizations.

• Experience teaching mentoring building and promoting an inviting design culture.

• Systems-thinker with the ability to execute beyond the pixels designing for online and offline experiences.

• Strong collaborator with design leadership program management engineering content research and fellow design managers.

• Track record of designing and shipping high-quality products and global user experiences across multiple platforms (e.g. web mobile Android iOS).

• Patient and optimistic approach within the team adjacent teams partners and our community.

Your Location:

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed to with your manager.
