This manager will be responsible for Excess and Surplus Lines/Specialty (E&S/S), Commercial Lines and Personal Lines insurance filings. Has the ability to work remote from anywhere, or hybrid.

As a Manager, you'll actively pursue timely approval of all personal and/or commercial lines rates and rating programs by state regulators. We'll count on you to perform the managerial duties necessary to ensure that the Nationwide Companies are in compliance with state filing laws and regulations with respect to personal and commercial insurance.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the departmental analysis of filing information to resolve appropriate action to be taken in order to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations. Decides appropriate course of action in response to internal inquiries about compliance.
  • Prepares and manages filings of all personal and/or commercial lines rates and rating rules for approval by the state insurance department. This encompasses all rate revisions initiated by product areas served. Anticipates regulatory issues regarding rate revisions. Coordinates with rate implementation process by answering and supervising the resolution of questions and concerns raised by those offices involved in the process.
  • Coordinates the implementation of legislative revisions and ensures that the companies are in compliance.
  • Advises internal partners regarding implementation of revision based on specific knowledge of the state regulatory structures and the current regulatory environment. Uses judgment and proceeds with implementation, due to lead-time constraints, in lieu of formal regulatory approval.
  • Interacts with General Counsel's office and managers from systems, finance, underwriting, etc. Supervises notification of those affected by rate changes. Responds to special requests from state insurance department for additional information outside of rate filings, e.g., rate samples.
  • Initiates contact with regulators regarding rate filings. Promotes company's interests and image through contacts with the insurance departments. Negotiates with state regulators to reach agreement on and approve rate filings within an appropriate time frame.

May perform other responsibilities as necessary.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Director; typically has between three and 10 direct reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies. Mathematics or actuarial science major preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Completion of INS, AU or similar designations is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of eight years related experience in property and casualty insurance, more specifically in product management or compliance and with an advanced level of autonomy and responsibility. Supervisory and/or project leadership experience preferred.

Knowledge Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of property & casualty lines of insurance. Insurance department practices, procedures and filing requirements. Regulations and statutes as they apply to filing of insurance products. Advanced verbal and written skills necessary to write clear, concise and technically accurate correspondence to insurance regulators and internal partners responsible for rate revisions. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of state regulators, actuarial, Nationwide Technology and legal counsel. High level of analytical, administrative and supervisory skills. Ability to operate personal computer and related filing, actuarial and business software.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Nationwide pays based on a geographic-specific salary structure. The range for this role in Ithaca, New York is$79,000.00 - $163,000.00
