We are looking for a dynamic leader to join our team as a Manager of Generation Engineering. This position is responsible for leading a team of electrical engineers and subject matter experts in power generation. The team runs and supports projects to increase generating efficiency, implements SCADA and controls for plant operations, provides technical direction, and conducts performance and regulatory testing of systems and equipment. The power production landscape is currently changing in dynamic ways, and we are looking for a leader who is excited to be at the forefront of new technologies and processes, leading teams through ambiguity and change.

This is a hybrid-remote position reporting to either the Cedar Rapids, IA or Madison, WI office.

20% travel throughout our service territory in Wisconsin and Iowa is required. Candidates must reside in Iowa or Wisconsin.

What you will do

• Directs the electrical engineering team. Interfaces with generating facility management, sourcing, safety, environmental, legal, and financial and business performance to ensure that performance activities align with generating unit financial and operating objectives.
• Develops strategies, plans and leadership for implementing advanced, major, and complex engineering, environmental and construction projects, and provides technical support for the reliable and efficient operation of fossil fuel, wind, solar and hydro generating units.
• Demonstrates leadership in the area of safety. This requires observing and enforcing OSHA and company safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents.
• Identifies, and develops innovative methods for improving project management (PM) processes and techniques while ensuring proper adherence to PM processes. Promotes continuous improvement in all processes.
• Directs project teams to deliver projects on time and on budget in a safe and environmentally conscious manner to the satisfaction of generating unit management.
• Leads engineering activities related to project portfolio management and annual operating plan development.
• Directs equipment and system performance testing for efficient and reliable generation unit operation.
• Develops a sound working relationship with engineering consultants, contractors, and equipment manufacturer's representatives to the application of their services and products.
• Directs the verification of the benefits and cost savings resulting from completed engineering projects.
• Directs and supervises contractors involved in performing advanced, major and complex construction project work. Monitors performance and conformance to all contractual and specification requirements. Enforces OSHA and company safety rules.
• Prepares necessary documentation for obtaining authorization and permits from regulatory agencies for generating station projects and testifies at public hearings.
• Keeps fully informed of internal and external generating station state-of-the-art technology processes, systems and equipment. Participates in R&D activities and partnerships.
• Chairs, facilitates, coordinates, and implements generating unit programmatic initiatives and user group activities for the generating fleet.
• Performs all management duties including, but not limited to, budgeting, hiring, performance reviews, coordinating and scheduling work, salary recommendations, discipline, ensure employees report to work fit for duty, leadership, grievance resolution, coaching & counseling, models Alliant Energy's Core Values at all times.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in engineering or related area is preferred
• Certification Professional Engineer certification is preferred

Required Experience

• 5 years of related experience
• 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent. (Equivalent supervisory experiences may include project management, providing work direction, leadership experience through temporary assignments, roles in the community or external organizations, or other demonstrated leadership experience.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of the theory and application of business planning processes, including identifying industry trends and directions, developing and implementing engineering programs and strategies to satisfy customer's present and future needs.
• Thorough knowledge of electric and steam generation industry, plant operations, and mechanical and electrical equipment and maintenance methods.
• Demonstrated in-depth understanding of engineering and operations related financial and business skills including budgeting, accounting, utility economics, NPV, EBIT.
• Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated project management and scheduling knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
• Works in a diverse and inclusive environment.
